Peripheral Devices Overview
Definition:
Devices that are externally and internally connected to a
computer and enhance the functionality of a computer but not
part of its core architecture.

Categories:
• Input Devices
• Output Devices
• Storage Devices
Input Devices
1.Keyboard
• Sends text and commands to the computer.
2.Mouse
• Provides point-and-click interaction with the graphical
interface.
3.Scanner
• Digitizes physical documents.
4.Microphone
• Captures sound input.
Output Devices
1.Monitor
• Displays visual output from the computer.
2.Printer
• Produces hard copies of digital documents.
3.Speakers
• Outputs sound for music, video, etc.

1.External Hard Drive
• Expands computer storage.
2.USB Flash Drive
• Portable and compact storage for transferring files.
3.Optical Drives (CD/DVD)
• Reads/writes data to CDs and DVDs.
Combination of Input/Output Devices
1.Touchscreen Monitor
• Acts as both input and output device.
2.External Modems
• Connects to the internet while transmitting data.
What Are Computer Ports?
• Definition:
Ports are interfaces on your computer to which you connect
peripheral devices for data transmission.

• Purpose:
To enable communication between the computer and external
devices like keyboards, printers, and more.
Common Types of Computer Ports

•USB (Universal Serial Bus)

•Most widely used port.

•Examples: USB 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, and USB-C.

•Use: Connecting keyboards, mice, flash drives, printers.

Common Types of Computer Ports

•Transfers video and audio.
•Use: Connects monitors, TVs, and projectors.

•Ethernet
•For wired internet connections.
•Use: Connecting to networks.
Common Types of Computer Ports

•Audio Jack (3.5mm)

•Transfers sound.
•Use: Headphones, microphones, speakers.
Common Types of Computer Ports
•VGA (Video Graphics Array)
•An older video output standard.
•Use: Older monitors and projectors
Summary
•Ports allow computers to communicate with peripheral devices.

•There are multiple types of ports and devices for various tasks
like input, output, and storage.

•Understanding these ports and peripherals is essential for
