What is Mapping /
Transformation ??
• To find the geometrical representation of a function of a complex variable, it
requires the usual practice of cartesian plotting, here a curve to a real function
y = f(x).
• In the complex domain, the function w = f(z)
i.e. u+iv= f(x+iy)
• Above equation involve 4 variable, hence a four dimensional region is required
to plot in the cartesian fashion, which is not possible.
• So, we make use of two complex planes, one for the variable z=x+iy, and the
other for the variable w=u+iv.
• Since, each point (x,y) in z-plane, there corresponds a point (u,v) in w-plane.
Linear Transformation / Mapping
• A mapping of the form w=az+b where, a & b are real or complex constants
is called as linear mapping or Transformation.
• In other words, the combination of translation, rotation, and magnification
is called as linear transformation.
Translation -> w=z+a
Magnification -> w=a.z
Rotation -> w=eiθ.z
