STEP-BY-STEP CONFIGURATION OF
PORT FORWARDING
FOR
However, to ensure seamless and safe delivery of video contents, there is need to
configure each router and video recorder for end-to-end synchronization. This
guide therefore, provides the basic requirements and step-by-step information on
how to set up port forwarding on Centre’s MTN, Airtel, Huawei, or Mobily 3G/4G
routers in order to allow access to the Hikvision or Dahua NVR/DVR system.
Key Requirements:
CONFIGURE YOUR
ROUTER
Step 1: Log in to Router's Admin Interface using router’s default or
configured IP address
1. Open a web browser and type in the router’s IP address in the address bar.
Common IP addresses for 3G/4G routers are:
PG | 4
MTN: 192.168.1.1 (Then, configure NVR or DVR’s IP = 192.168.1.4)
Airtel: 192.168.1.1 (Then, configure NVR or DVR’s IP = 192.168.1.4)
Huawei: 192.168.1.1 (Then, configure NVR or DVR’s IP = 192.168.1.4)
Mobily: 192.168.1.1 (Then, configure NVR or DVR’s IP = 192.168.1.4)
Meanwhile, you may need to reconfigure your Router and NVR/DVR Local
IP Address in this network range: 192.168.1.0/24
IP Address = 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
IP Address = 192.168.1.4
Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 192.168.1.1
IP Address = 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0
Gateway = 192.168.1.1
Now, ensure you can PING the Gateway (192.168.1.1) from your PC.
Then, try to also PING the NVR/DVR (192.168.1.4) from your PC.
If you obtain good transmit/receive responses from the ICMP status, then
you have established connectivity between your Router and the Video
Recorder.
Now, open a browse and from the Browser’s Address Bar, type the
URL below:
http://192.168.1.1 and hit Enter Key on your keyboard.
Option A:

WAN IP
Enter your username and password to log into the admin page. By default,
the username and password might be something like:
o Username: admin
o Password: admin or password
If you have changed the credentials, use the updated username and
password.
Step 2:
Click on the “Connection” Tab
View the WAN IP
Copy it out as shown in the diagram below

Step 4:
Still on the Security Tab dropdown, click on Virtual Server
Type the details as follows:
Name = HTTP
LAN Port = 8000
WAN Port = 8000
LAN IP Address = 192.168.1.4 (i.e. the IP address of the NVR/DVR)
Protocol: Both
Once this is done, click Add button. If everything is done right, you should have
a replica of the image below.
Repeat this step for RSTP
Name = RSTP
LAN Port = 554
WAN Port = 554
LAN IP Address = 192.168.1.4 (i.e. the IP address of the NVR/DVR)
Protocol: Both

Step 5:
Click on ACL Settings
Enable HTTP on LAN

With this setup, your router is now ready to synchronize with your DVR or NVR, but
you need to setup your DVR or NVR to complete the synchronization processes.
PLEASE NOTE:
That although, devices have different management interfaces, the policies are
just the same.
You can navigate through the menu lists on devices management software
interface to change settings or implement security configurations as applicable.

Now, you need to create port forwarding rules for both HTTP and RTSP ports.
1. Click on "Add" or "Create New Rule" to start configuring the first port
forwarding rule.
2. Configure Port Forwarding for HTTP (Port 8000):
CONFIGURE YOUR
DVR / NVR
To set up a Hikvision or Dahua DVR/NVR with HTTP port set to 8000, RTSP port
set to 554, and an IP address of 192.168.1.4, follow the steps below. This guide
assumes that 192.168.1.4 is your external IP address or router's public-facing IP
address, and you'll need to configure port forwarding on your router to make the
DVR/NVR accessible remotely.
PG | 16
Here’s a step-by-step guide for both Hikvision and Dahua DVR/NVR systems:
Once the port forwarding settings are applied, you can test whether they are
working correctly:
1. Internal Testing: From your local network, open a browser and try accessing
the device using the local IP address (e.g., http://192.168.1.4:8000 for
HTTP).
If everything is working locally, you can now access the device remotely using
the external IP address (which is 192.168.1.4) from any device connected to
the internet, provided that port forwarding is configured correctly.
2. External Testing: You can use an external network (e.g., mobile data or a
different Wi-Fi network) and check if you can access the NVR/DVR remotely
via the public IP address and the respective port (e. g., http://your-wan-
ip:8000 for HTTP and rtsp://your-wan-ip:554 for RTSP).
3. Firewall and Security Settings: Ensure that your firewall (if applicable)
allows the specified ports (8000, 554) to pass through. It may also be
necessary to adjust the NVR/DVR settings to allow remote access on these
ports.
Troubleshooting
4. Port Not Opening: If the ports are not opening, double-check the port
forwarding configuration and ensure the router's firewall isn’t blocking the
ports.
2. Unable to Connect Remotely: If you're unable to connect remotely, confirm
that the public IP address is correct and that you are using the correct ports
(8000 and 554).
3. Device Inaccessible: If the NVR/DVR is not accessible locally, make sure
the internal IP address (192.168.1.4) is correctly assigned to the device, and
there are no IP conflicts on your local network. PG | 20
Conclusion
By following the above steps, you should be able to successfully configure port
forwarding for your Hikvision or Dahua NVR/DVR on an MTN, Airtel, or Mobily
3G/4G router. This allows you to access your system remotely from any location
via the specified ports (HTTP: 8000, RTSP: 554).
