CONDUCT OF EW AT SEA AND EW
REPORTING PROCEDURE

10
CONDUCT OF EW

OTC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:

 Direction, coordination and control of EW.

 Establishes and promulgates the policies, OPORD

and OPGEN.

 Delegate any or all EW responsibilities to a

subordinate commander known as EWC.

11
EWC/ EWCS
 Principal advisor to the OTC pertaining to EW matter.
 Coordinates EW assets and makes recommendations to the
OTC regarding the planning
 Prefer to be OTC ship or delegated duty to EWC
 EWC should be preferably be the squadron EW officer
 OTC when Fleet Commander is afloat this duty may be
assigned to fleet EWO.
 In case of non availability of fleet/squadron officer this duty
is to be delegated to the EW control ship commander.
 Responsible for coordinating the offensive and defensive
employment of EW from initial through final engagement.
He also concerned with implementing and monitoring
EMCON plans.
12
EW COMMUNICATION NETS
EW COORDINATION NET (UHF)
Main net for interchange of EW
Net should be secure net unless equipment limitations
dictate.
Controlled by EWC for:
 Passing report of ESM intercepts
 Control of ECM activity reports and ECM victim reports
 Co-ordination/Reallocation of EW tasks
 Chaff firing and control
 Reporting equipment defect and other EW related activity

13
REPORTING UHF NET
 Following EW information may additionally be passed on
this net:

· Evaluated racket bearing by EWCS

· Flash reports of threat radars

· Relevant EW Information of concern should also

be passed dedicated for other facts of warfare.

Tactical UHF

All alarm reports are passed on this net in addition to

normal tactical information.
14
RACKET NO/ASSIGNMENT
 Four digits no, allocated to each intercept.
 First Two Digits Are From Block Number Allocated To The
Ship. Last Two Numbers Are From Blocks 60-77 For EW
Intercept Reports.
 ( FIGURE 68 AND 69 ARE NOT USED)
 Racket Numbers Are To Be Given By The Ship Making
The Intercept Report.
 The EWC May Call For Reports From All Or Selected
Ships. If Same Racket Is Reported By Several Units, The
Only One Racket No Will Be Assigned By EWC.
15
SPOT NUMBERS
Imaginary name to conceal the original
emitter name.
Allocated by EWC to the friendly as well
as to the known enemy emitters.
Spot numbers are to be laid down in ops
orders.
These are allocated by OTC/EWC.
These are to be used on all EW nets.
They have no security.

16
EW CONFIDENCE LEVELS
CONFIDENCE 1 (DOUBTFUL)
The operator is unsure about classification because it is based on estimated
rather than measured information’s..
CONFIDENCE 2 (POSSIBLE)
Operator has some reservation about classification based on limited
information.
CONFIDENCE 3 (PROBABLE)
Based on measured parameters, although coinciding with those of stated
emitters but still room for some doubt
CONFIDENCE 4 (POSITIVE)
Based on measured parameters and which coincide accurately
17
RACKET REPORTS

• All unfriendly emitters are transmitted as racket

report
• Spot numbers are used to identify the emitters if
possible
• Initial report should be passed without delay
(depending on EMCON restriction)

• Components of racket
– XX No.
– Bearing
– Spot/freq
– XX No.
