OBJECTIVES
The primary objective of this project is to reduce the need for manual labour and to ensure the efficient use of
water resources. The Automatic Water Level Controller with IoT provides an innovative solution for
sustainable water management practices.
Water Level Monitoring: Continuously monitor water levels in tanks, reservoirs, or wells in real-time.
Provide remote access to water level data via IoT-based dashboards or mobile apps.
Automatic Water Pump Control: Automatically turn the water pump ON/OFF based on predefined water
level thresholds.
Water Conservation & Efficiency: Minimize water wastage by preventing overflow.
EXISTING SYSTEM
Traditional water tank systems often suffer from inefficiencies and human error due to the lack of real-time
monitoring and automation. In residential, agricultural, and industrial setups, water overflow, dry running
of pumps, and irregular water supply can lead to:
• Water wastage due to overflow when tanks are not monitored.
• Damage to pumps caused by dry running when tanks are empty.
• High electricity consumption from unnecessary pump operation.
• Manual monitoring that is time-consuming and unreliable.
• Lack of remote control, making it difficult to manage water levels when not physically present.
PROPOSED SYSTEM
The proposed system is an IoT-based automatic water level controller that monitors the water level in a
tank in real time and automatically controls the water pump based on predefined level thresholds. It also
provides remote access to water level data and pump status via a cloud platform or mobile application.
Key Components:
Ultrasonic/Float/Conductive Sensor: Detects the water level in the tank.
Microcontroller (ESP8266/ESP32): Reads sensor data and connects to the internet via Wi-Fi.
Relay Module: Controls the pump based on signals from the microcontroller.
Cloud Platform (e.g., Blynk, Thingspeak, Firebase): Stores data and provides a user interface for
monitoring and control.
Mobile App/Web Dashboard: Displays real-time water level, pump status, and alerts.
ABSTRACT
Many people living in residential areas experience problems with their water tanks, such as running out of
water or experiencing overflow due to an excess supply.
It can be difficult for users to judge the water level more precisely in their tanks, leading to potential
overflow when the pump is turned on.
This project seeks to answer these issues by implementing a water tank management system. By
incorporating a water level sensor, users can observe the water level in their tanks and the motor pump will
turn on automatically when the water level drops below the lower reference point.
In the event of an overflow, the sensor will detect the high-water level and turn the motor pump off
automatically, thereby preventing the wastage of water and conserving electrical energy.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
The IoT-based automatic water level controller operates by continuously monitoring the water level in a
tank using sensors and automatically controlling a water pump based on the measured level. It also allows
remote monitoring and control through an internet-connected platform.
1. Sensing Water Level
2. Data Processing
3. Automatic Pump Control
4. IoT Connectivity
6. Alerts and Notifications
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
INDIVIDUAL BLOCKS EXPLAINATION
1.Ultrasonic Module : It is used to detect the water level inside the tank by measuring the distance
between the sensor and the water surface . Sends continuous signals to the Arduino indicating the current
level.
2.ESP8266:The ESP8266 microcontroller plays a crucial role in automating the monitoring and control of
water levels in overhead tanks, sumps, or reservoirs. Thanks to its built-in Wi-Fi, it can also send water
level data to your phone or cloud services like Blynk, Thing Speak , or Firebase.
3.Relay:Works as a switch to control the water pump . When activated by the ULN2003, it turns the pump
ON or OFF.
4. Water Pump : Fills the tank when the water level is below the defined minimum level . It is
automatically stopped once the tank reaches the full level.
Advantages and Applications
Advantages:
