SUMMARY
• A triangle is a three-sided polygon

• Triangles can be classified according to sides

(scalene, isosceles, equilateral) and angles (acute,
right, obtuse).
• The total measure of the interior angles of a triangle is
180

• The exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the

sum of its two remote interior angles.

QUADRILATERAL
A polygon with four sides.
"Quadrilateral" came from the Latin words
quadri which means a variant of four and
latus which mean "side".

Quadrilaterals have special types such as

parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus,
square and trapezoid.
Name of Quadrilateral Description

Parallelogram A quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides.

Rhombus A parallelogram with four equal sides.

Rectangle A parallelogram with four right angles.

Square A rectangle with four congruent sides.

A quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides.

Trapezoid If a trapezoid has two equal sides, it is called isosceles
trapezoid.
In a quadrilateral, the total measure of its interior angles is 360°. The sum of the
interior angles of a polygon can be solved using the formula (n - 2) x 180° where n
refers to the number of sides of a polygon.

CIRCLE
S
Draw a circle like
this.

A
A circle is a closed plane figure made up of
a set of points that are equidistant (same
distance) from a fixed point callled the
center. In this illustration, •A is the center
of the circle.
Aside from the center,
other parts of the circle
include radius, diameter
and chord.
BASIC TERMS RELATED TO CIRCLES

A segment drawn from the
center to any point on the circle.
A B Radiu it is half of the diameter. it is
named by two capital letters
such as in this example.

E Chord two capital letters. In this
example. is the chord.
Figure Term Descriptio
n
A chord passing through the center
of the circle. it is the longest chord.
C B Diamete It is twice the radius. It is named by
two capital letters. In this example,

r is the diameter.
A portion of the circumference of a circle.
F G FG is an example of the arc. When an arc

Arc is less than half of the rotation, it is called

as the minor arc. If it is more than half of
the rotation, it is called as the major arc.

Distance around the

Circumferenc circle.

𝜋 (pi) is the ratio between the distance around the
circle and the distance across the circle. In other

diameter will result to 𝜋. Its value is or

words, dividing the circumference of the circle by its

approximately equal to 3.14.

Constructing A
A compass is an instrument which aids in constructing a circle.
Circle
In constructing a circle, follow these steps:
• Draw a line representing the radius of the circle with the aid of a
ruler on a piece of paper.
• Attach the pencil to the drawing compass.
• Point the needle of the compass on one end of the line and the
pencil lead to the other point. The point where the needle points
to represents the center of the circle.
• rotate the compass without moving the needle until it reaches a
compas full turn.
