Lesson-2-Big-Data-First-half

Big data refers to extremely large and complex datasets that traditional processing methods cannot handle efficiently, and it is growing exponentially. It is crucial for companies to leverage big data analytics to identify trends, optimize operations, and enhance customer satisfaction through personalized recommendations. Examples include Netflix's video processing and Tesla's data generation, which illustrate the importance and impact of big data in various industries.

BIG DATA
WHAT IS BIG
DATA?
How relevant is big data in
today’s technological landscape?
BIG DATA
Big data can be described in many ways, but some of the few are the
following:

• refers to extremely large sets of data that are so complex and vast that
traditional data processing methods can't handle them efficiently.

• a massive collection of data that is growing exponentially over time.

• too large to reasonably process or store with a single tooling.

3
AN EXAMPLE OF BIG DATA
These are some of the Big Data examples:

• Netflix processes over 1 billion hours of video watched every month. This
data is used to create personalized recommendations, tailor content to
specific regions, and even decide which original content to produce.

• YouTube users upload approximately 720,000 hours of video content

daily, generating 1.5 to 2.5 petabytes of new data each day.

• Tesla vehicles generate approximately 25 gigabytes of data per hour,

meaning its global fleet produces multiple petabytes of driving data daily.

4
WHY IS BIG DATA IMPORTANT?
Some of the key reasons:

• Companies use data analytics to identify trends, optimize operations, and make
data-driven decisions rather than relying on intuition.

• Big Data also helps businesses tailor recommendations, ads, and services to
individual users, enhancing customer satisfaction. For example, Netflix suggests
shows based on viewing history, and Amazon recommends products based on past
purchases.

• In addition to that, companies leveraging Big Data gain an edge over competitors by
identifying market trends, predicting consumer behavior, and adapting strategies
fast

LET’S TALK
ABOUT BIG DATA
ANALYTICS
What does big data analytics
really mean? What entities uses it
the most?
FUNCTION OF BIG DATA ANALYTICS
Big data analytics refers to:

• the process of collecting, storing, processing, and analyzing large and complex datasets
(often called "big data")

• It can be from various sources to extract meaningful insights and patterns, enabling
informed decision-making in businesses and other fields

• deals with massive amounts of data that traditional database management systems might
struggle to handle effectively.

BENEFITS OF BIG DATA ANALYTICS
Some of the benefits of big data analytics are:

• Cost Savings

• Competitive Advantage & Innovation

• Fraud Detection & Security Improvements

• Smarter Healthcare & Medical Research
