Introducing Oneself

Virtual Guidelines:
 Use laptop or any gadget with specification
for virtual learning
 Log in 15 minutes before the time schedule
 If you want to ask questions, you just write
it on the chat box
 If you are called to recite open your video
cam and microphone
 If you are instructed to answer the drill,
take a piece of paper and do so.
Learning Activity

Direction: Give the multiplication

sentence of the following pictures. Write
your answer in the chat box.
Take a look at the girl. What did the girl have in
her hands?

2,3,5,7 4,6,8,
9
Let us read the situation

 Lorena is holding two placards

with set of numbers. The first
placard has 2, 3, 5 and 7. The
second one has 4, 6, 8 and 9.
 Which set of numbers is prime?
 Give the factors of 2,3,5 and 7.

 How many factors does a prime

number have?
 Which set is composite?
 Identify which numbers
among 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9
have only two factors and
have more than two factors.
 How many factors does a
composite number have?
 How do you write a composite number
as a product of its prime factors?
 How do you tell whether a number is
prime or composite?
 What are the two ways to get the prime
factorization of a number?
 Let us watch the video to find out how to
get the prime factorization of a number.
Ask the following questions.

 What is prime factorization?

 What is the prime factorization
of 16?
 What are the two methods in
performing prime factorization
 How do you write prime factors
in exponential form?
Discuss the Examples
Additional Example 1A: Using a Factor Tree
to Find Prime Factorization

Write the prime factorization of the

number.
A. 24
24 Write 24 as the product of
two factors.
8 · 3
4 · 2 · 3 Continue factoring until all
factors are prime.
2 · 2 · 2 · 3

The prime factorization of 24 is 2 · 2 · 2 · 3. Using

exponents, you can write this as 23 · 3.
Additional Example B: Using a Factor Tree
to Find Prime Factorization

Write the prime factorization of the number.

B. 150
150 Write 150 as the product
30 · 5 of two factors.

10 · 3 · 5 Continue factoring until

all factors are prime.
2 · 5 · 3 · 5

The prime factorization of 150 is 2 · 3 · 5 · 5, or

2 · 3 · 5 2.
Additional Example 2A: Using a Step Diagram to Find
Prime Factorization
Write the prime factorization of each number.
C. 476
Divide 476 by 2. Write the
2 476 quotient below 476.
2 238
Keep dividing by a prime
7 119
number.
17 17
Stop when the quotient is 1.
1

The prime factorization of 476 is 2 · 2 · 7 · 17, or

22 · 7 · 17.
Additional Example 2B: Using a Step Diagram to Find
Prime Factorization

Write the prime factorization of the number.

B. 275 Divide 275 by 5. Write the quotient

below 275.
5 275
5 55
11 11 Stop when the quotient is 1.
1

The prime factorization of 275 is 5 · 5 · 11, or

52 · 11.

Abstraction and Generalization

1. How do you tell whether a number is prime or

composite?
2. How do you find the prime factors of a
numbers?
3. What is the prime factorization of a number?
4.What are the steps in determining the prime
factorization of a given number using the factor
tree method?
5.What about the steps involved in determining the
prime factorization through continuous division?
Factor Tree Method
To find the prime factorization of the given number
using factor tree method, follow the below steps:
Step 1: Consider the given number as the root of
the tree
Step 2: Write down the pair of factors as the
branches of a tree
Step 3: Again factorize the composite factors, and
write down the factors pairs as the branches
Step 4: Repeat the step, until to find the prime
factors of all the composite factors
Division Method
The steps to calculate the prime factors of a number is
similar to the process of finding the factors of a large
number. Follow the below steps to find the prime factors of
a number using the division method:
Step 1: Divide the given number by the smallest prime
number. In this case, the smallest prime number should
divide the number exactly.
Step 2: Again, divide the quotient by the smallest prime
number.
Step 3: Repeat the process, until the quotient becomes 1.
Step 4: Finally, multiply all the prime factors
Closing the Session:

 What is the most effective approach

for obtaining prime factorization?
 Why did you select factor tree over
continuous division, or vice versa?

Do you have any further questions

about the lessons?
Is the lesson explained clearly?

the following numbers using factor tree or
continuous division.
