Channel Capacity or Channel Transmission Rate

The document discusses Shannon's Equation and Channel Capacity Theorem, focusing on the relationship between bandwidth, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and data transmission rates. It presents problems and solutions illustrating how changes in bandwidth affect the required SNR to maintain the same data rate. Additionally, it includes calculations for determining channel capacity based on given bandwidth and SNR values.

Channel Capacity or Channel Transmission Rate

Shannon’s Equation/Channel Capacity Theorem/ Rate of Information

Transmission per sec
Related Problem:
1. If we need 10 Mbps data rate then if band width needed 10 kHz and the SNR
needed 100, then if bandwidth increase to 20 kHz then which SNR we need to get same
data speed
Related Problem:
1. If we need 10 Mbps data rate then if band width needed 10 kHz and the SNR
needed 100, then if bandwidth increase to 20 kHz then which SNR we need to get same
data speed

Solution: Here,
To Keep Same Data Rate We Need to Change
SNR For the new Channel Bandwidth B1=10KHz
So, B2=20KHz

Problem 2
The data is to be transmitted at the rate of 10000 bits/sec over a channel having bandwidth B =
3000 Hz. Determine the signal to noise ratio required. If the bandwidth is increased to 10000
Hz, then determine the signal to noise ratio.
Above results show that bandwidth is increased to 10000 Hz, the signal to noise ratio
reduced by nine times. This means, if bandwidth is increased, the required signal power is
reduced.
*Shannon’s Equation/Channel Capacity Theorem/
Rate of Information Transmission per sec
Calculation Procedure
Channel Capacity /Rate of Information Transmission per sec
Here,
C=B*(1+SNR) bps B=Channel Bandwidth in Hz
=B* {(1+SNR)/ 2} SNR=Signal to Noise Power Ration
in Normal Unit

If SNR in dB then we have to convert it in Normal Unit

We Know,=10log(SNR)
So, SNR=Antilog(/10)
Related Problem:
If a radio channel bandwidth is 10 KHz and SNR is 40 dB ,what will be
the channel capacity or data rate of this channel in kbps
Solution:
Here
C=B*(1+SNR) bps B=10KHz=10*1000 Hz
=40 dB
=B* {(1+SNR)/ 2}
=10000*{(1+10000)/ 2} We Know,=10*log(SNR)
So, SNR=Antilog(/10)
=132878 bps =Antilog(40/10)
= =10000
= (132878/1000) Kbps
= 132.878 Kbps
