Networks

The document outlines the network framework for a manufacturing organization with a Toronto head office serving as a regional office and connected to various branches across Canada. It describes the use of a private cloud connected via VPN, a layered architecture for network design, and a backup data center in Markham, Ontario. Each regional office mirrors the head office's setup, minus the backup data center, and the document details the network structure within branch offices and the data center's components.

INFO 6033 – Exercise 2

Overview
• The overview diagram showcases the entire framework of all the
locations including the head office , the regional office and their
branches at the end.
• All the cloud modules are connected to each other through a VPN and
as it is one single manufacturing organization , the cloud used will be
a PRIVATE CLOUD.
• Each Regional office has various branches as shown in the diagram .
• The Head Office also serves as a regional office and it is connected to
a backup data centre that is located in Markham, Ontario.
• The older system used a mesh whereas the new system in the
diagram uses a layered approach which defines all the office on
various levels clearly.
• List of Offices :
1. Toronto Head Office , also Serves as Regional Office(SW Ontario):
Branch: Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Windsor
2. Montreal – Central :
Branch: Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Sherbrook, Quebec
City
3. Halifax – Atlantic Region :
Branch: Fredericton, Charlottetown, St John’s
4. Calgary – Western Region :
Branch: Vancouver, Kelowna, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg
Head Office
• The Head Office is located in Toronto and it also serves as a regional
office for the south western region.
• The head office is then connected to 4 other branch offices namely :
Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Windsor.
• The above diagram showcases the overview of all the networking
peripherals that should be present in each of the branches.
• As there are 4 branches under the head office , 4 different branches are
shown with the same network diagram.
• Again everything here is connected to the cloud.
• A more detailed layout will be given in the regional office
• The Toronto head office is connected to a backup Data Centre which is
setup in Markham, Ontario . This will be used in case the head office
stops functioning effectively.
Regional Office
• For the Regional Offices the setup would be the same like that of the
head office but it wont have the Markham Backup Data Centre
connected to it as the backup is only for the head office.
• Everything else would the same for all regional offices just like that of
the head office.
• The number of branches would vary for each regional office :
1. Toronto Head Office (SW Region) – 4 Branches
2. Montreal (Central Region) – 5 Branches
3. Halifax (Atlantic/Eastern Region) – 3 Branches
4. Calgary (Western Region) – 5 Branches
Branch Office
• The branch office basically gives the overall outline of a network system
in side each branch office.
• It is a layered architecture where at the top of the chain is the internet
which is connected to a router which it turn is connected to a primary
switch.
• This primary switch is in turn connected to several distribution switches
which help to refine the layered approach by making use of th hub and
spoke design.
• These distribution switches are then connected to their individual edge
switches which are in turn connected with the end user devices such as
pc/laptop, telephones , VoIP phones , printers , fax machines and other
computer peripherals.
Data Centre
• A data center is a physical facility that organizations use to house their
critical applications and data.
• Here the data centre would include :
1. Proxy Server
2. Management Server
3. Web Server
4. FTP/File Server
5. Database Server
6. Application Server
• Here the data centre acts as a backup for the main head office in case
of any downtime experienced by the main head office.
• This is located in Markham, Ontario.
