Group 1 DEMONSTRATION
Group 1 DEMONSTRATION
Demonstration
- According to Ramadhani and Surya (2017) the word Demonstration comes from the Greek
word demos, which means to perform an activity or concept
- Teaching physical education and health can be more effective if teachers use demonstration
as a strategy.
Defining Demonstration
To become successful in using demonstration strategies for teaching physical education and
health, teachers should consider the following points: Teachers should use instructional materials
that are big enough for all the pupils to see. If the pupils cannot see what the teacher is
presenting, it may cause misbehavior that may lead to an unorganized demonstration. The
teacher needs to consider the language that he/she will use. The language to be used should be
appropriate to the pupils so that they could easily understand the concept demonstrated. Lastly,
pupils should be allowed to ask questions to the teacher regarding the ideas presented. In this
scenario, pupils can make clarifications about their misconceptions to make the learning more
meaningful.
Characteristics of Demonstration Strategy
• It has clear goals and objectives.
- Teachers need to remember that they conduct activities to help the pupils
understand the concept. Hence, they have to make sure that the demonstration is
done in a simple manner. Avoid presenting demonstration activities that result in
confusion among students that may lead to the misconceptions of the concepts.
• Attention must be given to all pupils.
- In the classroom, giving attention to the pupils is one of the duties of a teacher.
While doing demonstrations the teacher must see that pupils are paying attention to
follow the given instructions. This strategy allows teachers to pay attention to all the
pupils in the classroom. They can quickly identify the pupils who are experiencing
difficulties and provide them with guidance or call the attention of those who are
misbehaving or not listening to the demonstration.
Steps In Using Demonstration
Step 1: Planning and Preparations
1. Define the Objective:
4. Create an Outline:

Step 2: Introduction of the Lesson
1. Capture Attention:
2. State the Objective:
3. Provide Context:
teachers should engage in self-reflection by evaluating what aspects of the lesson were successful and
which areas may need improvement. Reflection enables teachers to identify strengths and weaknesses
in their teaching approach and helps guide future improvements for more effective teaching.
Assessing Prior Knowledge:
Teachers need to be aware of what students already know before introducing new content. Connecting
new material to students' prior knowledge makes learning more effective. When teachers have a clear
understanding of students’ previous learning experiences, they are able to present new concepts in a
way that is easier for students to grasp.
Steps In Using Demonstration
Demonstration Proper
Preparing the Space:
The learning environment should be set up in a way that helps students focus and feel comfortable. This
includes making sure the classroom or demonstration area is clean, well-organized, and free from
distractions. Furniture should be arranged to encourage participation, and the space should be large
enough for all students to see the demonstration and interact with the lesson.
Organizing Materials:
Teachers should gather all the materials, tools, or equipment needed for the lesson before the class
starts. This might include books, handouts, visual aids, or technology like projectors or computers.
Having these materials ready and easily accessible ensures the lesson can proceed without
interruptions. For example, if the lesson involves using a whiteboard, make sure markers are
available, or if a video is part of the lesson, confirm the technology works ahead of time.
Steps In Using Demonstration
Demonstration Proper
Creating a Comfortable Environment:
It’s important for the classroom or demonstration space to be comfortable. This could mean ensuring
the room has proper lighting, the temperature is suitable, and seating arrangements support student
engagement. If students feel comfortable and the environment is conducive to learning, they are more
likely to be attentive and involved in the lesson.
The setup should encourage student interaction with both the teacher and their peers. For instance,
arranging desks in groups or in a circle can make discussions and group work easier. If the lesson
involves practical activities, make sure that all students have enough space and the necessary
resources to participate.
Steps In Using Demonstration
•Instructional Support
Instructional support is needed by the teachers when having a demonstration activity. In teaching
physical education and health using demonstration, the teacher must prepare instructional support like
sports equipment, the place where the demonstration will occur, and other materials essential for the
activity.
•Evaluation
This step is the end and an essential part of the demonstration activity. The evaluation will tell the
teachers if they are successful in doing the exercise. The assessment will show the strengths and points
that need improvement in the part of the execution. Furthermore, it provides both the teachers and pupils
an opportunity to reflect on how the demonstration activity will improve.
Advantages of using Demonstration
The following are the advantages of using demonstration strategy in teaching physical
education and health to the primary grade pupils:
It engages and motivates the pupils to maintain activeness in the teaching and
learning process.
It requires time to plan and prepare, particularly during the activity's rehearsal before
the actual presentation.
Many inexperienced teachers are teaching the subject, and sometimes, there is a
mismatch between the teacher's specialization and the nature of the subject handled.
