TECHNOLOGICAL STRATEGIES FOR ACADEMIC

Written Communication
❖PDF (Portable Document Format) are files that allow the exchange and
transmissions of documents in the original printed format. They can be accessed
online and read by users of any platform.
Audiovisual Communication
❖Presentation Software uses slides in presenting a lecture or speech. The
presentation may include clip art, graphics, pictures, video and audio.
❖Video/ teleconferencing facilitates participation in seminars and forums and
eliminates the need for travel.
❖Web Portals are used for conducting online instruction. Students and teachers sign
in to exchange information and engage in discussions.
The following devices can be used to prepare, store and present information: digital
camera, video camera, webcam, computer/ laptop with internet access/ Wi-Fi,
smartphone, digital voice recorder, USB card reader, printer, scanner, multimedia

ENVIRONMENT
Telecommunication
❖Electronic mailing lists are lists that allow businesses to advertise by using
automated telemarketing, sending emails to the relevant people at key times, for
example, when a new product is launched.

❖Electronic bulletins/ billboards are forums where advertising and information


can be posted and viewed by (potentially) millions of relevant people.

❖Intranet is a network that operates within an organization.

❖Online shopping reduces overhead costs for the seller and helps to save time and
travel.
USEFUL DEVICES FOR MANAGING A BUSINESS,
ADVERTISING AND STORING INFORMATION
❖Mobile phone/ landline connection with voice mail/ caller ID/ speed
dialing/ VoIP are devices that allow for identity management, call screening,
dissemination of information, sending multiple text messges, time management.

❖Desktop/ laptop computer/ computer network server are devices that are
useful for managing accounts and information using databases and spreadsheets.

❖Facsimile/ printer/ scanner/ photocopiers are used for preparing memos,


flyers, notices, company materials – internal and external communication.
Useful devices for businesses include; desktop/ laptop computer, mobile phone with
internet access, smartphone, camera phone, MP3 player, webcam.

AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES.
❖Weblog/ discussion boards allow users to exchange ideas and opinions in real time.
❖Email/ threaded discussions/ chat rooms enable social interaction.
❖IM (Instant Messaging)
❖File sharing allows uploading and exchanging of music, video and literary material.
❖Downloadable ring tones/ iTunes enable wider distribution of music.
❖Facebook facilitates social networking.
❖Twitter and BBM enable instant dissemination of information, exchange of views
❖Youtube gives individuals a channel for expressing opinions, cultural activities, recording
historic events.
❖VoIP and Skype are useful for maintaining social contact, are effective and reliable.
