INTRODUCTION

It has been reported that around 30-40% of electricity energy used in

many commercial buildings is consumed by the lighting systems. But
efficiently energy use in lighting systems remain inadequate. This is
attributed to factors such as poor daylight use and insufficient
integration with the artificial lighting system, or in cases where
integration exists, energy-efficient lighting technology has not been
explored well. Therefore, there is a need for automated systems that
can adjust lighting to provide appropriate illuminance based on
occupancy and changing light conditions.
OBJECTIVES

• Review of the existing lighting control methods

1
• Design logic for lighting control circuit and its peripherals.
2
• Design circuit for lighting control.
3

LITERATURE REVIEW

There are various ways to control the lighting system for energy saving purpose. The
most common lighting control methods include;
 On-Off switch
 The use of timers
 Use of Manual dimers
 Use of automatic dimmer device or sensors

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the Arduino Uno-based system exemplifies a versatile and efficient

approach to managing multiple AC loads through a combination of manual and
automated controls. By integrating a push button, LDR, motion sensor, keypad, RTC,
and a 16x2 LCD, the system allows for dynamic interaction and real-time feedback,
enhancing user experience and operational efficiency. Overall, this system
showcases the potential of combining various sensors and inputs for intelligent
automation, making it suitable for applications in home automation, security
systems, and energy management.
RECOMMENDATION

To enhance this Arduino Uno-based system, it is recommended to:

 Expand sensor capabilities by adding temperature or humidity sensors for more versatile
environmental control.
 Implementing wireless communication, such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, would allow remote
control and monitoring of loads.
 Adding data logging for energy consumption tracking and integrating fail-safes, like
current sensors and over-voltage protection, would improve safety and reliability.
 Optimizing power usage with low-power modes and upgrading the user interface to a
touchscreen or OLED display could enhance user interaction.
 Finally, upgrading to a more advanced microcontroller, such as the ESP32 or Arduino
Mega, would enable handling of more complex systems and larger projects.
