SharePoint?

 SharePoint is a web-based platform


that provides the powerful tools for
organizing content of sites, sharing
knowledge, provides collaboration,
managing documents, and finding
information.
 SharePoint provides sufficient space to
store and share data, information, and
documents.
SharePoint has 6 different areas

1.SharePoint Farm

A SharePoint farm is a collection of


servers that work in concert to
provide a set of basic SharePoint
services to support a single site. A
SharePoint farm can be hosted in a
cloud, in a company's private data
center or across multiple data
centers in different locations.
2.SharePoint Web
Application

A SharePoint web application is a collection of


one or more websites configured to map an HTTP
request with a unique domain name. Each web
application contains one or more site collections.

A SharePoint web application is a

web application contains one or
more site collections.
4. Sites & Subsite

Think of top-level sites as being


drives, while subsites are the sub-
directories under a drive's root
directory or other nested sub-
directories.
5. Web Parts

SharePoint Web Parts are segmental


components that shape the basic building
block of a page on SharePoint sites.
Web parts can help customize intranet
content, layout and a set of adjustable
scripts in certain pages via the web
interface.
6.1 Lists

A SharePoint list is simply a


collection of data that has some
kind of structure to it: it is
essentially like a table, a
spreadsheet or a simple database.
It can include many different types
of information including numbers,
text and even images.
6.2 Libraries

SharePoint document library is a


container or a special kind of list
where documents or files are
stored. Here we can create,
organize and manage different
types of documents, as well as
collaborate with team members on
them.
Various types of files and their
meta information can be stored
here. Meta information helps our
team members to easily locate and
identify files to work on later.
6.3 MetaData

Metadata provides us further


information about a particular file.
Kindly note that SharePoint
metadata is additional information
about our files and NOT the content
of the files.
For example, some of the metadata
are “File Name”, “Create Date,”
“Modified By,” “File Type,” “File
Size,” “URL”, “Version”, etc.

Column & Content Types

Site Columns define reusable column definitions and Content Types, which are made up of Site Columns, define
reusable schemas for both lists and libraries.

In addition to defining schema, you can also attach workflows and event handlers to a Content Type.
Site Columns and Content Types are stored in galleries at the site level and they are available to be used within
that site and any of its children.
7. Search

This high-level overview of how search works can help


you understand where and how you can customize the
search in SharePoint.

In lists and libraries, site columns store detailed


information about each document.

Search crawls the lists and libraries and adds the site
columns and values to the search index.

In the search index, site columns are mapped to


managed properties.

When a user enters a query in a search box, the query is


sent to the search index.

The search engine finds matching results, and sends


them to a search results page.
8. Site Pages

SharePoint pages are nothing more than a means to display


content on a given site. It is like when you prepare lots of
dishes for your guests and put it all in a table and run out of
space – you pull another table and put the dishes there –
same thing.
So each site might have multiple pages
9. User & Groups

A SharePoint group is a collection of


users who all have the same set of
permissions to sites and content.
Rather than assign permissions one
person at a time, you can use
groups to conveniently assign the
same permission level to many
people at once.

11. WorkFlow

SharePoint workflows are pre-


programmed mini-applications that

Workflows can range from

approvals for a plan or document,
to tracking the current status of a
routine procedure.
12. Branding

SharePoint Branding is the process


of changing the look and feel of the
SharePoint user interface using
custom master pages, style sheets,
images, JavaScript, jQuery and so
on.
