PROJECT - MEANING

• A project is a temporary endeavor with a defined objective by a team or

individual to create a specific outcome. It has a beginning, middle, and end and
involves planning, executing, and controlling resources (such as time, money,
and people) to achieve the desired results. Projects can range from small,
short-term efforts to large, complex, long-term initiatives. In a nutshell, a
project is a goal-oriented, organized effort.
Project examples:
•construction of a new building
•launching a new website

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
• Project management is the process of using skills, knowledge, and methods
to achieve project goals within a budget and time limit. Project scope is the
work required to deliver a product or service, and project scope
management is the process of outlining, tracking, and closing tasks to meet
project goals.
• Project management is important because it helps ensure projects are
completed on time, within budget, and to the expected quality. It also helps
identify and mitigate risks, manage resources, and keep stakeholders
informed.

SCOPE & IMPORTANCE OF PROJECT
MANAGEMENT

Subject: Entrepreneurship Development & IPR By: Kshitij Chandra

ROLE OF PROJECT MANAGER
A project manager's role is to lead and manage a project from start to finish, ensuring that it's delivered on time, on
budget, and within scope:
1. Planning: Define goals and roles, plan tasks, and create a budget
2. Organizing: Gather resources, delegate work, and build a team
3. Directing: Ensure the team is working towards the project's goals, and monitor progress
4. Controlling: Manage risks, deal with changes, and ensure the project meets quality standards
5. Closing: Deliver the project and ensure it meets the expected outcomes
6. Communicating: Interact with stakeholders and communicate project updates
7. Documenting: Use project management tools to document the project's process
8. Budgeting: Review the budget regularly, and reallocate funds if necessary
9. Improving: Continuously look for ways to improve the project.

PROJECT LIFE CYCLE
1. Initiation phase

2. Planning phase

3. Execution phase

4. Monitoring and controlling phase

5. Closing phase

Subject: Entrepreneurship Development & IPR By: Kshitij Chandra

PROJECT LIFE CYCLE
1. Initiation phase
The initiation phase marks the beginning of a project, with the project manager defining the scope
and objectives. During this phase, it’s vital to align stakeholders on common goals and lay the
foundation for a successful project.
Next, the project manager creates a project charter, outlining the purpose, goals, and scope of the
project. This charter includes the following key information:
•Project purpose and justification
•Main objectives and deliverables
•Key stakeholders and team members
•Initial schedule and budget estimates
The project manager also conducts a feasibility assessment to determine if the project is realistic
and worthwhile.

Subject: Entrepreneurship Development & IPR By: Kshitij Chandra

PROJECT LIFE CYCLE

2. Planning phase
During the planning phase, the project manager develops a detailed project plan and
roadmap. This involves determining key scheduling details, resource allocation, and
risks that could impact the project. The goal is to create a comprehensive map of
how the team will execute the work.
3. Execution phase
During the execution phase, the team puts the project plan into action. The project
manager plays a key role in coordinating resources, including people, tools, and
materials, while also ensuring the team is well-informed about their individual tasks
and timelines.

Subject: Entrepreneurship Development & IPR By: Kshitij Chandra

PROJECT LIFE CYCLE
4. Monitoring and controlling phase
The monitoring and controlling phase involves regularly checking project progress and team
performance to ensure everything adheres to the project plan.
During this phase, the project manager identifies any deviations from the plan and budget,
determining the cause to take corrective action. Tools such as status reports, time tracking,
budget reports, risk management plans, and stakeholder reviews make it easy to see the
most important metrics and milestones. To make changes to the plan, team members should
submit a change request for approval.
5. Closing phase
The closing phase marks the formal end of a project. During this phase, the focus is on
getting final approvals and sign-offs, conducting a post-project review, identifying what went
well, determining areas for improvement, and documenting lessons learned. These activities
foster a culture of continuous learning and promote accountability and transparency.

PROJECT APPRAISAL

Project Appraisal is the process of evaluating a project’s potential for success

before its execution. It involves a detailed analysis of various aspects of the project,
such as feasibility, costs, benefits, risks, and alignment with strategic objectives.
The goal is to assess whether the project should move forward, be modified, or be
rejected.

Preparation of a real time project feasibility report

Conducting a feasibility study is crucial for assessing the viability of a project or business
opportunity. By analyzing financial projections, market demand, and operational requirements,
organizations can make informed decisions about whether to proceed.
This section explores the essential steps in conducting a feasibility study, assisting in effective
decision-making and project success.
1. Preliminary Study and Definition
A preliminary study involves defining the project's objectives, scope, and potential impact.
It identifies market demand, target audience, and project constraints. This step provides
the foundational understanding needed for further analysis.
2. Forecast Income Statement
This section estimates the project's financial performance by projecting revenues,
expenses, and profits. It includes a detailed breakdown of income streams, operating
costs, and profitability metrics. The goal is to assess the project's financial viability.

Subject: Entrepreneurship Development & IPR By: Kshitij Chandra

Preparation of a real time project feasibility
report
3. Plan Company Structure and Operations
This step outlines the organizational framework, roles, and operational processes. It ensures
resource planning, workflow efficiency, and alignment with project goals. A clear structure
optimizes management and execution.
4. Generate Balance Sheet
A projected balance sheet highlights the project’s financial position by listing assets,
liabilities, and equity. It evaluates funding requirements and resource allocation. This
analysis provides a snapshot of financial sustainability.
5. Data Examination and Final Decision
This phase consolidates all findings to assess risks, profitability, and feasibility. It uses
financial metrics and qualitative factors to guide decision-making. The final decision
determines whether to proceed, revise, or terminate the project.

An Example of Feasibility Study

Conducting a feasibility study is imperative in manufacturing before embarking on projects like

electric vehicle (EV) production. Manufacturers can ensure informed decisions and successful
ventures by assessing market demand, financial viability, and technical feasibility.
This comprehensive approach guarantees alignment with market dynamics and technological
requirements, fostering competitiveness and sustainable growth in the manufacturing sector.
1. Manufacturing Aspect: Let’s consider the production of electric vehicles (EVs) as an example
within the manufacturing sector. Before starting the manufacturing process, a comprehensive
feasibility study is essential to assess various aspects of the endeavor.
2. Financial Aspect: Assessing the financial viability of manufacturing EVs involves analyzing the
estimated costs of production, including labor, materials, components, and overhead expenses.
Additionally, projected revenue from EV sales must be compared against production costs to
determine if the venture is financially possible and can generate a sustainable return on
investment.

An Example of Feasibility Study

3. Market Aspect: Conducting a market feasibility study involves identifying

target demographics for EVs and analyzing consumer preferences and
purchasing behaviors. Market research helps estimate potential market demand,
determine pricing strategies, and identify market trends and growth
opportunities.
4. Technical Aspect: Evaluating the technical feasibility of manufacturing EVs
entails analyzing production processes, resource requirements, and technological
capabilities. This includes assessing manufacturing facilities, equipment needs,
supply chain logistics, and compliance with regulatory standards. Technical
feasibility studies ensure that the manufacturing process is optimized for
efficiency, quality, and scalability.
