WHAT ARE ROBOTS?
Robots are programmable machines
designed to perform tasks autonomously
or semi-autonomously. They can be
controlled by external devices or operate
based on pre-defined instructions. Here
are some key characteristics and types of
robots:
Types Of Robots
• 1. Industrial Robots
• Purpose: Used primarily in manufacturing and production
settings.
• Features: Often have a robotic arm that can perform repetitive
tasks like welding, assembly, painting, or material handling.
• Example: Robotic arms on car assembly lines.

• 2. Service Robots
• Purpose: Assist humans in tasks outside of industrial settings,
such as healthcare, customer service, or domestic chores.
• Features: Often equipped with sensors and AI for tasks like
vacuuming, providing companionship, or assisting in surgeries.
• Example: Autonomous vacuum cleaners (e.g., Roomba) or
robotic surgery assistants (e.g., da Vinci Surgical System).

• 3. Humanoid Robots
• Purpose: Mimic human actions and often interact with people
in social or research settings.
• Features: Have a human-like body structure with a head, torso,
arms, and legs. They can walk, talk, or express emotions.
• Example: ASIMO by Honda or Sophia, the social humanoid
Features Of A Robot
Robots come with various features, depending on their design and
intended purpose. Here are some common features:

1. Sensors
• Function: Allow robots to detect changes in their environment, such
as light, temperature, sound, or proximity.
• Examples: Cameras for vision, ultrasonic sensors for obstacle
detection, pressure sensors for touch, and infrared sensors for
temperature.

2. Actuators
• Function: Enable movement by converting energy into motion. They
act like the muscles of the robot.
• Examples: Electric motors, hydraulic cylinders, and pneumatic
systems used for tasks like moving robotic arms or wheels.

3. Control System
• Function: Acts as the "brain" of the robot, allowing it to process
input from sensors and make decisions.
• Examples: Microcontrollers, computers, or AI-based systems that
help robots perform tasks autonomously or semi-autonomously.

4. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

• Function: Enables robots to learn from data, adapt to new situations,
and make decisions based on past experiences.
• Examples: Machine learning algorithms, speech recognition systems, and
computer vision.

INTRODUCTION TO ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE(AI)

• Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the field of

computer science that focuses on
creating machines or software capable of
performing tasks that typically require
human intelligence. These tasks include
learning from experience, recognizing
patterns, understanding natural language,
problem-solving, and decision-making.
8
KEY CONCEPT OF AI
• Key Concepts
• Machine Learning (ML): A way for computers to learn from data. It includes:
• Supervised Learning: The computer learns from examples with correct
answers.
• Unsupervised Learning: The computer finds patterns in data without being
told what to look for.
• Reinforcement Learning: The computer learns by trying things out and
getting rewards or penalties.
• Deep Learning: A type of machine learning that uses many layers of artificial
neural networks to understand large amounts of data. It’s great for things like
recognizing faces in photos or understanding spoken words.

• Neural Networks: Computer systems designed to work like the human brain.
They have layers of connected nodes (like neurons) that process information and
learn patterns
• Basic Examples
• Voice Assistants: Programs like Siri, Google Assistant, and Alexa that understand what you say and can
perform tasks like setting reminders or playing music.
• Image Recognition: Technology that helps computers identify things in pictures, like recognizing faces or
objects. It’s used in security systems and social media to tag people in photos.

HOW AI ENHANCES ROBOTICS
• AI-powered robots are getting better at doing complicated tasks thanks
to improvements in AI that help them act on their own and make quick
decisions based on the data they get. They use tools like computer
vision to see and understand their surroundings and natural language
processing (NLP) to understand and respond to human language. For
example, self-driving cars use computer vision to spot obstacles, read
road signs, and find their way, while AI helps them make decisions to
stay safe on the road. Similarly, surgical robots use computer vision to
identify body parts accurately and AI to help surgeons perform precise
procedures. These examples show how AI makes robots smarter and
more helpful, making them useful in tasks that used to need human
skills, and improving industries and everyday life.

10
PROS & CONS OF AI

11
IMPACT OF ROBOTS AND AI
• The use of AI and robots is making industries much more efficient
and productive by automating tasks and improving processes, which
helps companies save time and cut costs. It also creates new
opportunities in areas like medicine, where robots can help with
complex surgeries, and space exploration, where robots can handle
tasks in dangerous environments. AI's impact on society and the
economy is significant, as it leads to changes in jobs—some roles
may become automated, while new tech-related jobs are created. It
also has the potential to improve everyday life, with better
healthcare, safer transportation, and more convenient services. In
short, AI and robots are transforming industries and society,
bringing both benefits and challenges that we need to manage.

12
CONCLUSION
• The future of robotics and AI is marked by exciting predictions and
advancements that promise to reshape industries and everyday life.
Robotics and AI are expected to become more sophisticated, with
increased autonomy and the ability to perform complex tasks in
dynamic environments. Emerging technologies, such as brain-
machine interfaces, are gaining traction and could allow direct
communication between the human brain and computers, potentially
revolutionizing healthcare, rehabilitation, and even everyday
interactions with technology. AI's role in shaping future societies is
significant, as it can drive innovation in fields like education,
transportation, and personal assistance, while also raising important
ethical considerations regarding privacy, security, and the impact on
jobs. Overall, the advancements in robotics and AI are set to bring
about major changes in how we live and work.
