4. RUNNING THE SETUP

1.INTRODUCTION

A device driver, when taken in the context of computer

technology, simply refers to a programmer (software) normally
developed by the hardware manufacturer to allow it to interact
with the computer system. This driver programmer is used by the
different components and applications in the machine to execute a
specific task like printing, DVD reading and writing, or connecting
to the Internet, among others. Device drivers are generally specific
to the underlying operating system and hardware-dependent,
which means that the correct version must be installed to ensure
proper operation of the supported device. In most cases, new
hardware is accompanied by its own device driver, and in other
instances, the manufacturer provides a downloadable (often
updated) version from their own website.
2.COMMON PROCEDURES
IN INSTALLING DEVICE’S
DRIVER.
1.There are various ways to install a device driver. To download from a
website, proceed to the next step. To install from an optical medium,
go to step 4. To use other removable storage types, jump to step 6.

2.Launch your web browser and go to the website of the manufacturer

of your hardware, or use any search engine like Google or Yahoo! to
search for the appropriate device driver.
3.Save the file to a folder on your hard drive. Upon
completion of the download process, simply run the device
driver to install it.

4.Install a device driver from the accompanying CD media

and simply insert it into the CD or DVD drive of your
machine.

5.An installation program will be launched, which will initiate

the process. Simply follow the prompts that will appear on
the screen to complete the setup of the appropriate device
driver. The installation program will also terminate
automatically once the process is completed.
6.Device drivers may also be distributed using removable
storage, like flash drives. These types usually represent driver
updates to take advantage of functions on newer operating
system platforms. Insert the flash drive into the appropriate
port.

7. Wait for the operating system to recognize the removable

storage media. The process may start immediately during the
installation process.

8.If the installation does not begin automatically, simply open

the explorer program and navigate to the appropriate drive.
Locate the executable file that will launch the device driver
application.
9. Make sure to choose the correct version which corresponds to
your Operating System. Follow the onscreen prompts until the
process is completed.

10. In all device driver installation procedures, make sure to scan

the files with your protection software before beginning the
process. Once the device driver has been successfully installed into
the system, reboot the machine to ensure all changes are reflected
in the Operating System.

Motherboard ECS 865G-M8 Insyde BIOS)
 Computer with Optical Disc Drive (ODD)
Note:
Specified hardware (Motherboard ECS 865G-M8 Insyde BIOS) is
my chosen device used to demonstrate the installation
procedure via installation disc. Different devices have different
installation instructions, if you are going to install driver of your
device, I strongly recommend that you must read the manual in
order to obtain successful installation.
The support software CD-ROM that is included in the
motherboard package contains all the drivers and utility
programs needed to properly run the bundled products. Below
you can find a brief description of each software program, and
the location for your motherboard version. More information on
some programs is available in a README file, located in the
same directory as the software.
Cautions
 Never try to install all software that is not specified for use
with your device e.g. Motherboard ECS(Elitegroup Computer
Systems) 865G-M8 Insyde BIOS.
 If the Auto-install CD-ROM does not work on your system,
you can still install drivers through the file manager for your
OS (for example, Windows Explorer.
 Before installing any software, always inspect the folder for
files named README.TXT, INSTALL.TXT, or something similar.
These files may contain important information that is not
included in this manual.
When you insert the CD-
ROM(Compact Disc Read-Only
Memory) disc in the CD-
ROM drive, the autorun
feature will automatically
bring up the install
screen. The screen has
three buttons on it,
Setup, Browse CD and
Exit.
Note:
If the opening screen does not appear; double-click the
file “setup.exe” in the root directory.
 Application Tab
Lists the software
utilities that are
available on the CD.
 Read Me Tab
Displays the path for all
software and drivers
available on the CD
