What is Big Data

 Big Data is also data but with a Huge Size.

 Big Data is a term used to describe a collection of data that is
huge in volume yet growing exponentially with time.
 That means, Data is so large and complex that none of the
traditional data management tools are able to store it or process
it efficiently.
Types Of Big Data

 Structured Data
 Structured data can be crudely defined as the data that resides in
a fixed field within a record.
 It is type of data most familiar to our everyday lives.
for ex: birthday, address
 Structured data is also called relational data.
 It stored data in tabular form
Semi-Structured Data

 It’s a type of big data that doesn’t conform with a formal

structure of data models.
 Semi-structured content is often used to store metadata about a
business process but it can also include files containing machine
instructions for computer programs.
 This type of information typically comes
from external sources such as social media
platforms or other web-based data feeds.
Unstructured Data

 Unstructured data is information that doesn't have a predefined

structure
 Information that does’nt reside in a traditional row –column
database.
 unstructured data is an unsorted and vast information collection.
 It can come in different forms, such as text
documents, emails, images, videos, social media
posts, sensor data, etc.
 For Example: Texts , email ,facebook post ,
audio,video , blog etc.
Characteristics of big data

 1) Volume:- The name Big data itself is related to a size which is

enormous. Size of data plays a very curcial role in determining value
out of data. Also, whether a particular data can actually be considered
as a Big Data or not, is dependent upon the volume of data. Hence,
‘Volume’ is one characteristic which needs to be considered while
dealing with Big Data.
 2) Variety:- The next ascept of Big Data is its Variety. Variety refers to
heterogeneous sources and the nature of data, both structured
unstructured. During earlier days, spreadsheets and databaseswere
the only sources of data considered by most of the applications.
 Nowadays, data in the form of emails, photos , videos, monitoring
devices, PDF’S, audio, etc. are also being considered in the analysis
applications. This Variety of Unstructured data Poses certain isssues for
storage, mining and analyzing data.
 3)Velocity:- The term ‘Velocity’ refers to the speed of generation of data. How
fast the data is generated and processed to meet the demands, determines
real potential in the data.
 Big Data Velocity deals with the speed at which data flows in the form
sources like business processes, application logs, networks, and social media
sites, sensors, Mobile devices, etc. The flow of data is massive and
continuous.
 4) Variability:- This refers to the inconsistency which can be shown by the
data at times, thus hampering the process of being able to handle and
manage the data effectively.
 5) Value:- After having the 4 V’s into account there comes one more V which
stands for Value!. The bulk of data having no Value is of no good to the
company, unless you turn it into something Valueable to extract information.
Hence, You can state that Value! Is the most important V of all the 5V’s
