Calculating Measurements Tle 8

The document outlines a lesson plan for TLE 8-Masonry, focusing on calculating measurements and conversions related to masonry work. Students will learn to calculate areas, convert units, and determine the number of concrete hollow blocks needed for a given area. It includes examples and exercises for practical application of these concepts.

Direction: Observe the picture below and answer the
question that follow.
CALCULATING
MEASUREMENTS
TLE 8-MASONRY
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students can…
1. Carryout measurements and
calculations by…
1.1 Calculating the area and the number
of concrete hollow blocks (CHB)
1.2 Converting from one unit to another.
AREA
quantity that expresses the
extent of two-dimensional
surface or shape. In most
cases, only the dimension is
being measured and the area
itself is computed.
Example: What is the area of this
rectangle?
The area of the rectangle can be computed by multiplying
the length by its width.

SOLUTION:
2m
A= LxW
= 3m x 2m
A= 6m2

3m
Conversion
Why is there a need for converting units? We need to convert a
quantity from one unit to another in order to:
1.Compare the given quantities
Example: 1m + 2ft = ______ (We cannot say that the sum of the two
values would be 2 meters or 4 feet. Due to this fact we need to
select a single unit to which the two quantities would be converted.)
TABLE OF CONVERSION
FROM TO MULTIPLY BY
INCHES METER 0.0254
FOOT METER 0.3048
CENTIMETER METER 0.01
Conversion
1.Compare the given
quantities
Example: 1m + 2ft = ____
Example 1:
How many meters are there in 230 inches?
Given: 230 inches
Unknown: meters
Solution:
230 inches x 0.0254 = 5.84 meters
(Rounded to 2 decimal places)
Example 2:
How many meters are there in 5 feet?
Given: 5 feet
Unknown: meters
Solution:
5 ft. x 0.3048 = 1.52 meters
(Rounded to 2 decimal places)
Example 3:
How many meters are there in 550 centimeters?
Given: 550 centimeters
Unknown: meters
Solution:
550 cm x 0.01 = 5.5 meters
(Rounded to 2 decimal places)
2. Use a particular formula in getting the number of
Concrete Hollow Blocks (CHB)
FORMULA: Number of CHB = A x 12.5 pcs/m2
The value A in the formula is area expressed in m2. If the
given area is expressed in square inches the formula would
not give precise results.
EXAMPLE 1:
How many CHB do we need if the area is 6m2?
Formula: number of CHB = A x 12.5pcs/m2
Solution:
6m2 X 12.5 pcs/m2 =75 pcs.
Example 2:
400cm How many CHB do we need in the figure at
the right side?
FIRST: Convert the 400cm to meter
400 cm x 0.01 = 4m
10m
SECOND: Get the area.
A= Lx W formula of the area of rectangle
= 10m X 4m = 40 m2
THIRD: Get the number of CHB
NUMBER OF CHB = A x 12.5pcs/m2 formula of getting the number of CHB
= 40m2x12.5pcs/m2
=500pcs.
Direction: Solve the following.
Solve for the area of the following.
B.

l= 3m
25m

15m

Convert the following

•350 inches to ______ meter
•1000cm to _____meter
Direction: Solve for the number of Concrete Hollow Blocks (CHB)
show your solution on the space provided.

5m

2,000cm
