Cable Schedule

The document outlines the cable schedule for field signals, including objectives such as grouping signals and providing input for instrument layout. It details the philosophy of dedicated junction boxes for different signal categories and the separation of intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe circuits. Additionally, it describes the numbering system for main cables and junction boxes, including secondary multicores and their respective suffixes.

Cable Schedule

1
Cable Schedule

 Objective :

 Grouping of all field signals

 MTO of Cables & Junction Box

 Input to Instrument Layout

2
Cable Schedule

 Philosophy

 Junction boxes shall be dedicated to one signal category only .

 Intrinsically safe circuits and non-intrinsically safe circuits shall

not be contained within the same cable or marshaled in the same
junction box.

Reference : Instrument Cable Specification (Foster Wheeler Engineering Standard) 3

Cable Separation

 Instrument signals shall be divided into the following groups & categories :

Group 1 - Instrument Power and Control Wiring above 50V Group 3 – Low Level Signal Wiring (below 5V DC)

Cat Service
J AC Power Cat Service
P DC Power T Thermocouple Signals (Type K T/C)
R Resistance Thermometer Signals

Group 2 – Signal Wiring

Group 4 – Miscellaneous
Cat Service
L Analogue Signals Cat Service
A Alarm, Status & Control Signals (except SOV) F Fire Detection/Alarm Signals
D Digital Signals (Frequency or Pulse) G Gas Detection/Alarm Signals
S Sequence & Control SOV H Data Highway/Serial Link/Fibre Optic
E Safety Earth
X Project Defined User Choice

Reference : Instrument Cable Specification (Foster Wheeler Engineering Standard) 4

Field Cable and Junction Box Numbering

 Main cable numbers consist of a prefix defining the signal category

followed by a sequential number:
For e,g : L 001
S 022
 Sequential numbers is Consecutive irrespective of signal category.
 Number of digits may vary

 Main junction box number is derived from the main cable number
prefixed JB:
For e.g : JB L001
JB S022

Reference : Instrument Cable Specification (Foster Wheeler Engineering Standard) 5

Field Cable and Junction Box Numbering

 Secondary multicores (ie. multicores between the main JB and

secondary JB) are derived from the main cable number with a suffix
letter:-
For e.g. L 001A
L 001B
 Secondary junction box number is derived from the secondary
multicore number prefixed JB:-
For e.g. JB L001A
JB L001B
 Secondary cable number from JB to individual instrument is derived
from the main cable number with a 2 digit suffix corresponding to the
pair number in the main cable:-
For e.g. L 00108

Field Cable and Junction Box Numbering
 The system described above is modified slightly when 2 main cables
are run to the main junction box. In this case the main cables are
suffixed A & B:-
For e.g. L 003A
L 003B
 Any secondary multicores carry a further suffix:-
For e.g. L 003AA
L 003AB
 Secondary cables are numbered as though the 2 main multicores were
one larger cable:-
For e.g. L00301 TO L00320 } Pairs 1 to 20 in L003A (20 Pair)
L00321 TO L00330 } Pairs 1 to 10 in L003B (10 pair)
