DISASTERS

 Disaster may be an event, concentrated in time and


space, which threatens a society or a relatively self
sufficient sub div of a society with major unwanted
consequences as a result of the collapse of precautions
which had hitherto been culturally accepted as adequate

(turner).

 Safety aspects still suspect in many industries.

 Accidents may render industry unable to manage
the disaster e.g. Bhopal gas tragedy.
BIO DISASTER

 Probability of release of bio agents in an


inhabited area exists.
 Saboteurs likely to contaminate water sources.

and to bring in a semblance of order in the disaster

Rehabilitation stage
 This period covers short term measures to restore
essential services, COMN and normal community
life

Reconstruction stage
 Long term measures to provide adequate relief to
affected people to restore complete normalcy
