Values education is a high priority in the
Philippine education system, and it aims to
develop students' social, moral, and spiritual
values. However, teachers face a number of
challenges when teaching values education,
including: Lack of resources and support,
Poor teacher preparation programs, and
Inadequate instructional materials.
Why Values Education?
Values education is important because it helps
people develop a strong moral character,
understand the consequences of their actions,
and learn to do what is right. It can also help
people:

Definition of Values?
Values are beliefs or ideals that guide a person's actions and decisions:

Terminal values
 These are the desired end-states or life goals that people strive to achieve. Examples

include happiness, prosperity, and professional excellence.


Instrumental values
 These are the acceptable means of achieving terminal values. Examples include

personality traits like being ambitious, honest, and ethical.


Personal values
 These can create deep ties that become a person's most fundamental lens through

which they see the world.


Cultural values
 These are beliefs and practices shared by a group, influencing their behavior and

traditions. Examples include family loyalty, respect for elders, and traditions.
Social values
 These reflect your beliefs and understanding about how to treat people in and out of

the workplace.
Moral values
 These are related to our notions of justice, right and wrong, and ethics. They guide us

in decision-making and help us to behave in prosocial ways.

 These are the things you'd like to be doing in the future.

Dominant values
 These are primary values exhibited in a personality.
