Building Load Details
DEAD LOAD
The dead load comprises of the weights of walls, partitions floor finishes, false
ceilings, false floors and the other permanent constructions in the buildings. The
dead loads may be calculated from the dimensions of various members and their
unit weights.
IMPOSED LOADS
Imposed load is produced by the intended use or occupancy of a building including the
weight of movable partitions, distributed and concentrated loads, load due to impact
and vibration and dust loads
The design lateral force shall first be computed for the building as a whole. This design laterals
force shall then be distributed to the various floor levels. The overall design seismic force thus
obtained at each floor level shall then be distributed to individual lateral load resisting elements
depending on the floor diaphragm action.

Load Calculation
Dead Load
Self-Weight= depth x 1 x density of concrete= =3 kN/m2
Floor Finish (FF)= 1KN/m2
Total dead Load= 4x 3.6= 14.4 kN/m
Live Load
Live load (LL)= 2 KN/m2 [IS-875 Part 2]
Total live Load= 2x3.6(shorter span) = 7.2 kN/m
Mu = 0.133fckbd2
87.94 mm <120 mm
Hence the effective depth selected is sufficient to resist the design moment.
Maximum spacing = 3d or 300mm, whichever is less = 3 × 120= 360mm (or) 300mm (take lesser
value) = 300 mm
For long span- Maximum spacing = 5d or 450mm, whichever is less = 5 × 120 = 600mm (or)
450mm (take lesser value) = 450 mm
Reinforcement provided.
Short span:
Near Edge: Provide 8mm diameter bars @ 110mm c/c (Ast prov = 456.72 mm²)
At mid-span: Provide 10mm diameter bars @ 110mm c/c (Ast prov = 713.7mm²)
Long span:
Near edge: Provide 8mm diameter bars @ 120mm c/c (Ast prov = 418.67mm²)
At mid-span: Provide 8mm diameter bars @ 170mm c/c (Ast prov = 296 mm²)

DESIGN OF COLUMN
Load calculation:
= 189.735 kN
Total load transferred from Brick wall Self weight Let Area of steel= 1 % of Gross Area
Therefore, Ac= 0.99 Ag, Asc = 0.01Ag 2508.46 x103= 0.4 x 30 x (Ag-Asc)
+ 0.67 x 500 x Asc
Let Area of steel= 1 % of Gross Area 2508.46 = 0.45x 30 x 0.99 Ag + 0.67 x 500
x 0.01 Ag Asc= 1914.73 mm2
Therefore, Ac= 0.99 Ag, Asc = 0.01Ag
Ag= (2508.46 x 103)/ 16.715 Provide 8 # 20 mm Φ bars (Asc =
2380.89= 0.45x 30 x 0.99 Ag + 0.67 x 500 x 2512 mm2) as main reinforcement.
0.01 Ag Ag= 150,078.68 mm2
Calculation of transverse
= (2380.89 x 103)/ 16.715 Provided area = 157,500 mm > 2
reinforcement:
150,078.68 mm2
Ag= 142,440.32 mm2 Pitch = minimum of {16d = 16 x
Hence OK 20 = 320 mm
Provide section size of 350mm x 450mm Or minimum lateral dimension
(Area=157,500 mm2) Check for Minimum Eccentricity:
= 600 mm 0r 300mm}
Now, factored load due to self-weight of one e = maximum {𝐿eff /500 +𝐿𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑙 = 300 mm
column will be 𝐷𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛/ 30 Or 20 mm} Diameter of bar = maximum
of {0.25 x d = 0.25 x 20 = 5 mm

Or 6 mm}= 6 mm

New factored total load= 2380.89 + 127.57= = Hence provide 8 mm Φ of
2508.46 kN = 20 mm lateral ties at 300 mm c/c spacing.
