Channel Coding

The document discusses channel coding, focusing on the importance of block codes in communication systems to correct errors caused by channel noise. It outlines the basic structure of communication systems, the need for channel encoding, and the parameters of block codes, including code words and code rates. Additionally, it introduces (4,3) block codes and their representation.

Basics of channels and code words

 Every channel has an upper limit on the rate at which information can
be transmitted reliably through the channel because of its capacity.
 Do to channel noise there will be error in transmitted bits at receiver
side, and to correct error we use block code.
 A block code is a set words that has well defined mathematical property
structure and where each word is sequence of fixed number of bits.
 The words belonging to block code are called as Code words.

Need channel encoding by block code

 At channel encoder we do channel encoding, where we add block code

to solve error.
 at source encoder We do source decoding, where we reduce
redundancy to improve band width utilization.
