LEGAL ISSUES
 The advent of the internet and remote communications means
that exchange of information is no longer paper based or face
to face but electronic between remote individuals.
 Issues binding on electronic identity to its owner and the fraud
and validity of identities take center stage. Government has to
pass laws to support electronic communication.
ECONOMIC ISSUES
BENEFITS
i. More efficiency means better utilization of resources
ii. Accountability and transparency in economic planning
iii. Individuals can transfer money and do e-commerce hence enhancing
economic development

 Repetitive strain injury: injuries from wrist hand, arm

repetitive movements when using the computer.
 Eye strain injuries: computer users are at a risk of
developing computer vision syndrome characterized by
eyestrain, headaches and double vision.
ETHICAL ISSUES
 Corruption and fraud: corrupt workers can use the computers to transfer
money from the business account to their own without leaving paper trails.
Fraudsters can obtain electronic financial information like debit card details
and hack accounts and transfer funds
 Spread of pornography and pedophile: other individuals use the
internet to spread pornographic material. Children are at a greater risk to
fall prey to pedophiliacs on the internet who can extract information from
them and even harm them.
 Spread of terrorism and drug trafficking: planning and coordination is
made easier however internet policing helps nab the perpetrators.
 Forgery: paper based documents can be forged using computers leading
to falsification of facts.
CULTURAL EFFECTS
 Use of ICTs has changed the way we talk, our privacy, human rights and
integrity.
 For example flaming which is writing online messages that use derogatory,
obscene or dirty language.
 It has also led to the spread f HIV/AIDS and other social ills

1. Protection against theft
 Hardware can be protected by burglar proofing the room(fiiting grills,
installing an alarm system and employ a guard
 Software can be stolen via a network even when physical security is
enforced therefore they can be protected within thr logical security
layer which involve things such as username and passwords so that
only authorized users can acces them.
 Firewalls and antivirus software should be installed to prevent
unauthorized accces and malware.
2. Content filtering
 Act of perusing through the volumes of data and information,
programs and other electronic files to identify those that are
dangerous. This is the technique tha.t is used by the anti virus
software.
