DUSTING

• refers to the process of removing dust


and dirt from surfaces to maintain
cleanliness.

• It is an essential part of environmental


hygiene in healthcare settings.

• Helps reduce the spread of infections


and allergens.
PURPOSE

• Prevent the spread of microorganism from


person to person and from place to place.

• Prepare a clean, comfortable and safe


environment for the patient and the health
care personnel

• Enhances patient recovery by reducing


exposure to allergens.

• Maintains overall hospital hygiene and


professionalism.
PRINCIPLES

• Have everything ready before


starting to work.
• Begin work from top to bottom.
• Start from least dirty to the
most dirty area.
• Follow a systematic pattern
• Avoid using dry dusters
NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES

• BEFORE
• Explain the procedure to the patient (if
applicable).
• Gather necessary materials (damp cloth,
disinfectants, gloves, etc.).
• Ensure proper ventilation in the room.
• Remove any unnecessary items from
surfaces.
• Wash hands and wear appropriate personal
protective equipment (PPE).
NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES

• DURING
• Start from high surfaces and move
downward.
• Wipe frequently touched areas like
bedside tables, bed rails, and call buttons.
• Be gentle when cleaning around medical
equipment.
• Avoid disturbing the patient unnecessarily.
• Change cloths or disinfectant wipes as
needed to prevent contamination.

• Properly dispose of used cleaning
materials.
• Return items to their original places.
• Ensure all surfaces are dry and free from
streaks.
• Wash hands thoroughly after the

EQUIPMENT’S

A tray with:
Laundry soap in dish
Dutch cleanser
Basin/Pail (filled with ½ water)
Big and small brushes
Brooms; mops
Newspaper to line table or chair
Fill the basin ½ full of water

In dusting a bar, table etc. wrap the cloth around
