What is automatic block
ABS has a signal at every km in the block section
signaling
These signals are normally in ‘OFF’ condition. They are ‘On’ only when their
track section is occupied or in case of some failure.
The aspect of these signals depends on the aspect of the signal ahead, which
ultimately depends upon the home signal of the next station.
There is no block instrument in the ABS and advance is lowered if its track
section is cleared.
In the above fig, the red line indicated TS shows the track section of automatic
signal A 505. Thus, A 505 is ‘ON’ only when TS is occupied, otherwise it is
‘OFF’.

TH-GD
Two block sections will be taken at a time. Thus, for TH-GD, the phasing will be

Operational Features
There will be no block instrument. Taking of line clear will be dispensed
with and Advance Starter will lower if its track section is clear.
There can be more than one trains at a time in the block section. The
number of trains depends upon the number of automatic signals, which
in turn depends on the length of block section.
There are normally automatic signals at every km.
The automatic signals will be normally ‘OFF’ and therefore trains will
keep moving in the block section.
If a Loco pilot finds an automatic signal ’ON’, he has to inform the
control by the phone provided at the signal post and then proceed
cautiously.
All axle counters are provided with 100% redundancy and OFC is also
provided vis two paths so that chances of failure of automatic signals
are negligible.
Support from division
SSE/Works and SSE/Electrical General to be deputed to start work in TH-
DMG and TH-GD sections.
AEN/Works and AEE/General to be deputed to start work in TH-DMG and
TH-GD sections.
Typical structure plan of NER for buildings to be provided to contractor.
Locating of old cables with open line, so that path of new cables may be
decided.
It is to be decided that in LJN-GD and STP-BUW sections who will do the
Engineering works tender.
