Introduction
• The presentation of an academic project report to a wider target is a required activity
that must be fulfilled in order to obtain your certification.

• Thus, proper preparation of your report slides and a good presentation is a good skill to
develop so as to make an acceptable defense of your research.

• It is important to note that Your presentation has to be prepared such that they to
answer question from members of the examining panel present, and it is your job to
convince them and defend your project with ample proof.

• In that regard careful considerations of what evidences are appropriate for presentation

• Methodology

1. Title page:

This slide should contain most of the information that is provided on the title page of the hard
copy of the project report. Specifically,

• The title of the project

• Name (in full)

• Affiliation (s)

• Name and details of the course

This should provide information to the panel on the following:

• A brief background to the study

• The problem statement

• Aim and objectives

• Justification of the Study (Why is the problem important to be solved?)

• Scope of the study

(Note that you may also include the specific research questions that you may have set out to answer)

• It is not necessary to cover everything that is currently understood or available

in the literature report of the hard copy project report.

• However, the following may be presented:

 The research(es) most relevant to your research
 Different theories that may apply to the specific area of the research

4. Methodology

• Ensure to briefly present to the panel how the research was undertaken. It may
be necessary to cover the following during the process:
 The type of that was conducted: qualitative, quantitative, or mixed
 The methods that that were chosen and why
 Details of the population, sampling methods, and other information
 Provide information regarding data analysis (If they exist) 7

a. Results:

• The slides containing the results should provide the target audience a good
understanding of what has been discovered during the research. It should cover the
following:
 An overall description of the data that was deployed in obtaining the results

 The results of the analysis

a. Discussion:

• The meanings, inferences and implications of the findings should be

highlighted here. Ensure to outline/explain:
 What the major findings are and what they mean with regard to the research
 How these findings relate to what others have found in the past

• Conclusions and recommendations

In order to end your presentation, a conclusion summarizing all that have been presented must be made.
There is need to:
 Restate the research questions
 Show how the results answer these questions/objectives
 Show what contribution has been made by your research
 State any limitations to the work
 Suggest future research

Ensure to present a slide or two that show the references used during the
presentation.

Oral presentation tips

1. Ensure to review your materials (The project report, slides and related materials)
thoroughly before presentation.

2. Carry out a thorough rehearsal of how you intend conduct your presentation.
This is necessary so as to ensure that your presentation is fluid and is completed
within the set time limit.

3. Prepare only the number of slides that you can present within the time limit.

4. Narrow down the ideas you are presenting. It is not all the ideas in your hard
dopy project that needs to be presented. 12

5. Your slides must not be wordy. About 5-6 lines per slide is recommended.

6. Prepare for unexpected questions. Ensure during your preparations that you come up
with possible questions that may be asked of you and try to answer them as well as
possible.

7. Ensure that the answers to questions from the panel must not be in conflict with what
is in your report.

8. If you do not have an answer to a question, please say so. Do not attempt to present
baseless answers.

• Introduce yourself at the beginning

• Introduce the title of the presentation

• Do not read the notes from the slides if possible

• Don’t speak too fast

• Put an emphasis on what you are saying.

• Do not sound monotonous

• You may look at your adviser once in a while for possible signs

• Stand on the right of the white screen if you are right-handed so you can easily
refer to the slide without giving your back to the committee

• Face the audience when you talk

• Keep eye contact with a person who is asking a question

• Make sure to keep attention to the reactions of the committee and don’t forget
to react in turn
