LCM AND HCF

LCM(LEAST COMMON MULTIPLE)

LCM stands for "Least Common Multiple." It is a mathematical concept used to find
the smallest positive integer that is divisible by two or more numbers. In other words,
the LCM of a set of numbers is the smallest multiple that all the numbers in the set
can evenly divide into.

To find the LCM of two or more numbers, you can use various methods, such as
prime factorization, the listing method, or the division method.
HCF(HIGHEST COMMON FACTOR)
HCF stands for "Highest Common Factor," which is also commonly known as the Greatest
Common Divisor (GCD). The HCF/GCD of a set of numbers is the largest positive integer
that divides each of the numbers without leaving a remainder. In other words, it is the
greatest number that all the given numbers share as a common factor.

To find the HCF/GCD of two or more numbers, you can use various methods, including
prime factorization, division method, and the Euclidean algorithm.
IMPORTANCE OF LCM:
The concept of Least Common Multiple (LCM) is important in mathematics and has several practical
applications. Here are some of the key reasons why LCM is important:
 Simplifying Fractions
 Divisibility Testing
 Least Common Denominator
 Solving Linear Equations
 Time and Motion Problems
 Periodicity and Cycles
 Project Scheduling
 Number Theory
 Computer Science
 Geometry
IMPORTANCE OF HCF:
The Highest Common Factor (HCF), also known as the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD), is an important
concept in mathematics and has several practical applications. Here are some of the key reasons why HCF
is important:
 Simplifying Fractions
 Common Factor Identification
 Equivalent Fractions
 Reducing Ratios
 Number Theory
 Optimizing Algorithms
 Diophantine Equations
 Engineering and Design
 Cryptography
