Problem Statement And Justification
Problem Statement
People worldwide struggle to manage their medication schedules, leading to
forgotten doses, incorrect dosages and severe health consequences.
Who Benefits:
• Individuals with chronic conditions
• Elderly Individuals
• Individuals with busy Schedules
• Individuals with Visual or Hearing Impairments

2
Problem Statement And Justification
Justification: This problem matters for several reasons:

• Medication non-adherence: Many patients struggle to remember to take their medication

as directed, leading to potential health complication due to missed doses or incorrect thing.
• Complex medication schedules: Patients with multiple medications or varying dosage
times often find it difficult to manage their regimen without support.
• Lack of real-time reminders: Traditional methods like pillboxes or alarms may not provide
timely and personalized reminders based on individual needs.
• Need for patient-centered design: A system should be adaptable to diverse patient needs
and preferences, including visual, auditory, and tactile reminders .

3
Technical approach

Arduino board and components used:

• Arduino Uno/Mega/ESP32- Main processing unit (ESP32 for WiFi/Bluetooth features)
• DS3231 Real-Time Clock(RTC) Module-Keeps tracks of time even when powered off
• DFPlayer Mini MP3 Module-Plays pre-recorded voice messages
• MicroSD Card(8GB or more)-Stores voice reminder files
• Mini Speaker (3W or more)- Outputs voice alerts
• Buzzer Module-Provides an additional audio alert

4
Technical approach
Working Principal
• Setup And Configuration:
User sets up the smart pill reminder by entering medication schedule and dosages
User configures alarm settings, such as alarm time, duration, and volume
• Medication Reminder:
The microcontroller reads the medication schedule from memory.
At the scheduled time, the microcontroller triggers the alarm buzzer or speaker .
• Remote Monitoring and Control:
The user’s caregiver or family member installs the mobile app.
The app connects to the smart pill reminder via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth
• Data Analytics:
The smart pill reminder collects data on medication adherence.
The data is transmitted to the cloud or mobile app.
• Software Components:
Programming language(e.g.,C++, Python)

Challenges and futurescope
Technical Challenges Future Scope
• Power Consumption: • Integration with Artificial Intelligence:
Ensuring long battery life while maintaining device Using AI to analyze user behavior and provide
functionality personalized medication reminders
• Sensor Accuracy: • Advanced Sensors and Tracking :
Ensuring accurate detection of pill removal or ingestion Using computer vision or machine learning algorithms
• Wireless Connectivity: to detect pill removal or ingestion
• Voice-Activated and Hands-Free Control:
Ensuring reliable Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity
• Data security: Integrating with smart home devices for hands-free
control
Protecting user data and medication information
• Global Health Applications:
Development smart pill reminders for global health
applications, such as tuberculosis or malaria treatment

7
Conclusion
A smart pill reminder is an innovative solution that addresses the
critical issue of medication non-adherence. By leveraging cutting-edge
technologies such as AI, IoT, and mobile apps, smart pill reminders
provide personalized medication management, real-time tracking, and
intelligent reminders.
