• Application software is a type of computer
program designed to help the user perform
specific tasks.
• It operates on top of the system software and is
directly utilized by end users to complete tasks
such as document creation, data analysis, media
editing, or gaming.
• Unlike system software, which operates in the
background and manages hardware resources,
application software is user-focused.
Types of Application Software

• Information Worker Software


Designed to support daily tasks like document processing, data analysis, and
presentations.
Examples:
• Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
Use : Creating documents, working with spreadsheets, preparing presentations, etc.

• Content Access Software


Allows users to access and retrieve content from different sources,
particularly from the internet.
Examples:
• Web Browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge
• Media Players: VLC, Windows Media Player
