What are peripheral devices


These are internal or external devices that connects directly
to a computer.
Types of peripheral
devices
a) Input devices
Input devices are devices used to enter or send data and control signals
to the computer.
Examples of input devices including keyboard,mouse,touch
screen,microphone,touch pad,scanner,digital camera,bar code
reader,joystick,track ball , webcam ,light pen ect.

• A keyboard is the main input device which is used to perform all


typing tasks on the computer.

• A mouse is a pointing device which is used to control the position of the


cursor on the screen.
• A mouse can be wired or wireless.
• It has two buttons called the left and the right button and a scroll wheel is
present between the buttons.

• A microphone is an input device used to input sound that is then


stored in a digital form.
Scan
ner

• A scanner is used to scan documents and enter them into the


computer in digital form.
• Scanned documents can be saved as an image in the computer.
Bar code reader

• Is an input device used to read the code hidden in the lines of the
barcode.
Joystic

• A joystick is an input device with a stick attached and is used to


control the direction of the device.
• It is most commonly used in gaming.
Track
ball

Is a pointing device which allows users to control cursor movement on


the screen without moving the entire device.
Light
pen

• Light pen is a positioning input device which is used to do graphic


design ,text messages etc, on a touch screen computer.
Digital
camera

• Is an input device which is used to take pictures and videos.


Touch
screen

• Is the screen that you can control with the touch of your finger.
• An android phone is a simple example of a touch screen.

• Is a camera that you can use to take pictures or video conferences by


connecting it to your computer .
• You can connect the webcam to your computer with a cable, or you
can also use a wireless webcam.
