Types of Electrical Circuit

The document provides an overview of common electrical symbols and types of electrical circuits, including series, parallel, and series-parallel circuits. It explains Ohm's Law, which states that current is directly proportional to voltage and inversely proportional to resistance, and includes sample problems for calculating resistance, voltage, and current. The document serves as a guide for understanding basic electrical concepts and calculations.

Common Electrical

Symbols
- are small drawings or pictograms
used to represent various
electrical devices in a diagram or
plan of an electrical circuit.
Types of Electrical Circuit
Series Circuit
 Is a circuit in which lamps/ loads are
arranged in a chain, so that the
current has only one path to take.
 The current is the same through each
load.
 Voltage drops add to equal total
voltage.
 All components share the same (equal)
current.
 Resistances add to equal total
resistance.
How to solve for the total Voltage,
current and resistance.
Parallel Circuits
 Is a circuit in which lamps/load
are connected across the wires.
 All components share the same
(equal) voltage.
 Branch currents add to equal total
current.
 Resistances diminish to equal
total resistance.
How to solve for the total
Voltage, current and resistance.

Series-parallel Circuit

 Is a combination of both series

and parallel.
Ohm’s
Law
Georg Simon Ohms –
German physicist who
discovered the law,
named after him, “The
Current is directly
proportional to it’s
voltage and indirectly
proportional to it’s
resistance”.
