STATISTICS AND
PROBABILITY
Mrs. Dela Cruz handles 3 sections
in LNHS with a total number of 150
students. She wishes to analyze
their Periodic Exam in Statistics and
Probability. Should she get the
scores of one section only?
Population – refers to the whole
group under study/investigation.
Sample – is a subset taken from a
population, either by random
sampling or by non-random
sampling
RANDOM SAMPLING
is the random selection of
sample participants to derive
conclusions and assumptions
about an entire population
TYPES OF RANDOM
SAMPLING
1. Lottery sampling is a
sampling technique in which
each member of the
population has an equal
chance of being selected.
2. Systematic sampling is the selection
of specific individuals or members from
an entire population. The selection
often follows a predetermined interval
(k). In this technique, every nth item in
the list will be selected from a randomly
selected starting point.
3. Stratified sampling which includes
the partitioning of a population into
subclasses with notable distinctions
and variances based on certain
characteristics of the population, such
as age, gender or socio-economic
status.
4. Cluster sampling which is similar
to the stratified sampling method,
includes dividing a population into
subclasses. It is sometimes referred
to as area sampling and applied on a
geographical basis.
5. Multi-stage sampling
uses a combination of
different sampling
techniques.

Identify the terms being described in each item.
1.It refers to the entire
group that is under
study or investigation.
POPULATION
2. It is a subset taken from a
population that represents the
entire group in which a
researcher aims to draw valid
conclusions from.
SAMPLE
3. This is the process of selection of n
elements from a population N, which is
the subject of an experiment or study
where each sample point has equal
chance of being selected using the
appropriate sampling technique.
RANDOM SAMPLING
4. A sampling technique
where every member of the
population has an equal
chance of being selected.
Lottery Random Sampling
5. It refers to a sampling
technique in which members of
the population are listed and
samples are selected in intervals
called sample interval.
