QUARTER 4 WEEK 5
Review:
Present the data below in a line graph. Draw
the graph on the board.
* A line graph is a type of chart which
displays numerical information using a
line. It is also called line chart or line
plot. It is a kind of graph used to show
trends or changes over a period of
time.
*The line graph has a vertical line called
the y-axis which contains the first
variable in the collected data. It may
represent any type of numerical data
such as pesos, years, scores,
temperature, grades, number of people
etc. The horizontal line called the x-axis
in the line graph contains the second
variable that relates to the first variable
*A single or simple line graph is a
graph that is plotted with only a single
line. It includes one data set.
*A double-line graph is a line graph
with two lines. It compares two
different subjects and shows how
things change over a period of time.
Study the line graph and let’s try to
discover how we deal with our lesson.
1. What is the title of the graph?
2. What does the scale in the y-axis represent?
3. In which month/s were Reyes family expenses
greater than Garcia’s family?
4. In which month/s were Reyes family expenses
less than Garcia’s family?
5. What is the difference between their
expenses on April?
6. Who has fewer expenses between the two
families? Explain your answer.
Study the data presented by the graph. Answer the
questions below by matching Column A with Column B.
When will you use a double-line
graph?
*A single or simple line graph is a
graph that is plotted with only a
single line. It includes one data set.
*A double line graph is a line graph
with two lines. It compares two
different subjects and shows how
things change over a period of time.
Study the line graph below then answer the
questions that follow. Choose the letter of the
correct answer.
____ 1. What is the title of the double
line graph?
A. Carlo and Melvin’s Monthly Weight
B. Carlo and Melvin’s Monthly Height
C. Carlo and Melvin’s Weekly Weight
D. Carlo and Melvin’s Yearly Weight
____ 2. The scale used in x-axis or
horizontal axis is ______

A. Week C. Year
B. Month D. Annual
____ 3. On what month/s do they have
the same weight?

A. June and July

B. August and September
C. August and October
D. July and September

How to solve routine Problem?
Remember
Routine problem solving involves at least
one of the four arithmetic operations and/or
ratio to solve problems that are practical in
nature.
To solve routine problems presented in the
line graph, we must analyze first the
problem by using these four steps:
A. Understand
1. What is asked? 2. What are the given?
B. Make a Plan
1. What is the operation to used? 2. What is
the number sentence?
C. Solve
1. Carry out the plan
D. Check
Read the problem below and study
the line graph then solve the
problem.
The Mathematics Club held their club officer’s
election last November 2020. Paolo, Charles,
Marian and Christine were nominated as
president. The club consisted of 180 members
coming from students of grade 1 to grade 6. In
the election, Paolo got 57 votes, 46 votes for
Charles, Christine got 35 votes and 33 votes for
Marian. These votes were tallied and graphed as
shown below. Did all the members voted during
the election? If not, how many did not vote?

Solving Non-Routine A
problems using data Y
presented in a line graph 4

QUARTER 4 WEEK 5
Do you still remember the steps in solving
routine and non-routine problems?
What are the following steps in
solving routine and non-routine
problems?
Our lesson for today is solving non-
routine problems using data
presented in a line graph.
Non-routine problems are complex
problem.
• requires more than one mathematical
operation
• it involves critical and creative thinking
skills to solve them.
• Various strategies and methods are
needed to come up with the answer.
This is the Four-Step Method that we are
using to solve the problem.
1. Understand : Know what is asked.
Identify the given facts.
2. Plan: Choose the operation or the
formula to be used.
3. Solve: Perform the strategy.
Suggested Strategies
a. Drawing a model/diagram
b. Using a formula and changing them to
mathematical symbol.
c. Working Backward
d. Breaking the problem into smaller
ones.
4. Check: Verify if the answer is correct.
Let’s Discover!

Samantha, a grade five learner planted

okra as her part to help the country and
have some nutritious food to be shared
by the whole family during this Covid 19
Pandemic. Study the table below and
discover the height of her okra after two
months.
Let’s Try another problem.

Alexa religiously monitoring the day’s

temperature to help her in taking care her
hypertensive grandma. She successfully
recorded them and plotted in a graph to
see the trend. What is the difference
between the lowest and highest
temperature in Metro Manila?
Directions: Study the line graph then answer
the questions that follow.
1. What is the total number of front liners
vaccinated on the first three months?
__________________________________
2. How many more front liners were
vaccinated on the third month than on the
first month?
___________________________
3. What is the average number of front
liners vaccinated from 1 st
month to 5 th

month?
Study the graph and answer the
problems below.
REMEMBER that:
Non-Routine problems are creative
problems and can be solved using the 4-
step method. The steps are:
1. understand the problem- know what is
asked and identify the given facts
2. plan-determine the formula or operation
that you are going to use
3. solve-show how the solution is done
4. check-go back to first step and check.
Directions: Study the line graph then
answer the questions. Circle the letter of
the correct answer.
