Patterns

The document outlines various types of patterns used in design, including linear, circular, mirror, and variable patterns, each with specific functionalities and selection options. It describes how to create and manipulate these patterns, including features like geometry patterns, visual property propagation, and the use of sketches and tables for pattern creation. Additionally, it highlights the ability to vary dimensions and control instances within patterns, providing a comprehensive overview of patterning techniques.

Pattern types
• Linear pattern
• Circular pattern
• Mirror
• Curve Driven pattern
• Sketch Driven pattern
• Table Driven pattern
• Fill Pattern
• Variable pattern
Linear pattern
• Direction : Select an edge or axis for direction reference
• Spacing and instances : Creates copies with Specified distance
and number of copies.
• Up to reference : Creates instances with selected reference
• Centroid : Distance between instances are measured from their centroids

• Selected reference : Distance b/w instances are done using from selected
reference

• We can control duplicates using distance between them or number of items.

Same applies for direction 2

Selection Options for pattern
• Features and faces : We can select the features and faces of
objects that needs to be patterned.

• Faces to pattern: Creates a pattern using the faces that make

up a feature. This is useful when a model only imports the
faces of a feature, not the feature itself.

• Bodies : Able to select complete bodies which includes faces,

features, fillets etc.,
• Bodies to pattern: Applies a feature to all bodies each time
the feature regenerates.
Instances to skip
• We can select the instances that can be skipped from creating
as pattern
Feature scope
• Feature scope: Applies features to one or more multibody
parts.
Vary Sketch
• Changes the dimensions of pattern instances as they repeat.
• We need to select dimension to activate this vary sketch
option and use Instances to vary option to control the
incremental dimension.
• Instance to vary: Varies the dimensions and locations of
instances in a feature pattern.
Geometry pattern
• A geometry pattern copies, but does not solve, the patterned
feature. End conditions and calculations are ignored. Each
instance is an exact copy of the faces and edges of the original
feature. The Geometry Pattern option is available for all
pattern features except variable patterns.

Propagate Visual Properties
• The Propagate Visual Properties check box controls the colors,
textures, and cosmetic thread data of patterned instances. For
example, if you use the mirror pattern feature with the check
box enabled, the right half of the mirrored body will share the
same colors as the left half.

Linear pattern
• You can use linear patterns to create multiple instances of one
or more features that you can space uniformly along one or
two linear paths.
Seed feature. Linear pattern
Circular pattern
• Use circular patterns to create multiple instances of one or
more features that you can space uniformly around an axis.
Curve Driven pattern
• The Curve Driven Pattern tool allows you to create patterns
along a 3D or planar curve. You can use a sketch segment or
the edge of a face to define the pattern. You can also base the
pattern on a closed curve, like a circle, or an open curve.
Transform curve and offset

Transform Curve Offset curve
• the "Transform curve" • The "Offset curve"
option in the Curve option keeps the normal
Driven Pattern distance from the origin
feature maintains the of the curve to the
change in X and Y from seed. This ensures that
the curve's origin to the the instances are aligned
seed: correctly.

Sketch driven pattern
• You can pattern components using 2D or 3D sketches that
contain sketch points, along with any construction geometry.
Reference point
Centroid Selected point
Table driven pattern
• Using X-Y coordinates, you can specify a feature pattern.
• Hole patterns using X-Y coordinates are a common application
for table driven patterns.
• However, you can use other seed features, such as a boss,
with table driven patterns.
• You can also save and load the X-Y coordinates of a feature
pattern, and apply them to a new part.
Fill Pattern
• Creates pattern with in fill curve

Variable pattern
• We can create a pattern by controlling different variables like
dimensions and create a pattern table

• Unlike table different this one doesn’t rely on co ordinates
