LESSON 1

CREATING MOVIE
PRESENTATIONS
POWERDIRECTOR PROJECTS
Each time starting on a new production, editor creates a new
project that is saved as PDS file and is used exclusively by CyberLink
PowerDirector. They should use the buttons to save, create new or
open existing projects within CyberLink PowerDirector.
The Changes made to the media in CyberLink PowerDirector
do not affect the original media imported into the program, Since
the settings are all saved in the project file, editors can trim, edit or
delete clips, but still keep the original files in the hard drive,
untouched. Creativity and innovation matter. If an Editor end up
changing things too drastically, he/she can always start over
Before starting the project, project’s aspect ratio must be set. The
default aspect ratio is 16:9, which fully utilizes a widescreen TV or
display device, as well as Youtube/s Full video window. It can also be
reverted back to 4:3 if required; as long as the aspect ratio of media
matches the project.

To set the aspect ratio for your project, Click the PD>Edit>
Aspect Ratio> 4:3 or 16:9. The preview window Changes according
to the selected aspect ratio
CAPTURING A VIDEO
Editors can capture a video and audio to the
computer by using CyberLink PowerDirector. To begin
capturing, A video capture device must be connected
properly and detected on your computer by the
program. Some audio and video capture devices and
sources that can be used include a digital video (DV) or
analog camera or VCR, a web camera, a TV tuner card,
or a microphone and more as mentioned in the
previous lesson.
CAPTURING A VIDEO
When capturing video and Audio in Cyberlink
PowerDirector, the Program automatically
detects the devices attached to the computer.
The desired capture devices are selected and
specify the desired location where captured
audio and video file would be saved. Video
setting can be placed as appropriate.
When capturing audio and video from a video
tape in a DV camera or DV VCR, one may also choose
the desired method to be used to capture video and
audio

Note: When a DV Camera connected to an IEEE 1394

port, the camera must be turned on for it to be
detected by the PowerDirector program.
EDITING PROJECTS
Once media is available in the editing workspace,
editors can perform modifications and refinements to
it. Editing is a broad term that encompasses a number
of different functions that includes: trim unwanted
sections from video or audio clips, increase or
decrease the speed of a video clip, or fix and touch up
your videos and photos.
EDITING PROJECTS
They can use the storyboard View or Timeline
View to create and edit projects. The storyboard and

an interlacing (TV) format which specifies how frames are displayed.
10. ADJUST VIDEO CLIP ASPECT RATIO- Video clips usually come in
