“ May freedom be seen,
not as the right to do as
we please, but as the opportunity to please to do what -Peter is right.” Marshall Freedom of the Human Persons Objectives:
discern the essence of true freedom
discuss moral responsibility and accountability in their exercise of
freedom;
realize that all actions have consequences;
evaluate the exercise of prudence in choices; and
realize that choices have consequences, and some things are given up while others are obtained in making choices. How do you perceive or view freedom?
How can you say that
a person is free? FREEDOM Freedom is an intrinsic and essential property of the person. This means that the human person by nature is a free being and that it is in his or her nature to seek freedom. An important indication of human freedom is the ability to make choices and perform actions. Our freedom to act sets us apart from other beings. FREEDOM: A Human Distinction
Animals act instinctively, responding
predictably to stimuli. A trained dog obeys commands like “fetch," appearing to act out of compulsion.
Humans, however, possess freedom. We
can choose how to respond to situations, defying expectations and acting in ways that animals cannot. Our capacity for free will allows us to be dynamic and unpredictable. We can choose to obey, resist, or even take initiative, as seen in the example of cleaning our rooms.
This freedom makes us unique and
responsible for our actions. FREEDOM: Shaping Ourselves
Freedom is the power to become who
we want to be. We have the ability to decide and create our own identities.
Our choices shape who we are. While
we have inherent traits, our talents, preferences, and views are often products of our decisions. Freedom allows us to imagine and strive for our goals. We can envision a future for ourselves and work towards achieving it.
Self-determination is at the core of
freedom. We freely choose our actions, and these actions define us. Our choices have consequences. Good actions make us better, while bad actions have a negative impact.
Ultimately, we are responsible for
shaping our own identities through the choices we make. The Choice
Imagine this scenario: Anna drops
her books. What do you do? This simple situation illustrates freedom – the power to choose our actions. We can help, ignore, or even react negatively. Freedom is Copyright: studiostoks not just having options, but https://images.app.goo.gl/uiWYApEXUx9x23p98
choosing and acting.
Self-Control
Freedom is not just about doing
whatever we want. It's also about self-control. Someone addicted to drugs loses control, diminishing their freedom. Acting solely on emotion, without considering consequences, Copyright: studiostoks https://images.app.goo.gl/xm183WbenZqCKjvSA also limits our freedom. Respecting Others Freedom means respecting the freedom of others. Slavery and imprisonment are dehumanizing because they deny individuals their fundamental freedom. Our choices can impact others, and we have a responsibility to use our freedom Copyright: Korkwellum https://images.app.goo.gl/4qWzngVL6taKuevu9
in a way that respects the freedom of
others. Can you think of any examples from history or current events where people's freedom has been unjustly taken away? The Essence of Freedom
Freedom is a complex concept. It's
about the power to choose, the discipline to control ourselves, and the responsibility to act in ways that value our own humanity and the humanity of others. KINGS OF FREEDOM Physical Freedom Physical freedom refers to the absence of any physical restraint. The person has the freedom of mobility to go where he or she wants to go. He or she is not impeded in his or her actions by any physical force. Granted that the person has natural limitations, physical freedom allows him or her to act and move in a determined manner. You cannot be everywhere at once, but your freedom allows you to move from one place to another and to go wherever you want to go. Psychological Freedom Psychological freedom is also called freedom of choice. The person is free to perform actions that he or she considers right and wise. A person is also free to act or not to act. Psychological freedom is innate and cannot be denied a person. No outside force or influence can compel a person to take action against his or her will. Moral Freedom Moral freedom refers to using freedom in a manner that upholds human dignity and goodness. Freedom is not an object that a person may use in whatever way he or she pleases. A person must use his or her freedom to grow as a person. A person becomes more free when he or she uses freedom well, but becomes less free when he or she uses it in a bad way. Humans have a natural inclination for what is true and good, and when a person uses his or her freedom to do acts that violate human dignity and goodness, he or she dehumanizes himself or herself and effectively negates human freedom. Conclusion "May freedom be seen, not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to please to do what is right." —Peter Marshall
We've explored the different facets of freedom: physical,
psychological, and moral. We've seen how our choices shape who we are and how our freedom is intertwined with responsibility. True freedom isn't just about having options; it's about using our choices to build a better world. It's about exercising self-control, respecting the freedom of others, and striving to act in ways that uphold human dignity. Thank You
