reporting a violation.
Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics
 The Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics were

created by the Computer Ethics Institute in

1992,

 To provide guidance on ethical behavior in

the use of computers and technology.

Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics
 Here's a list of the commandments:
1. Thou shalt not use a computer to harm other
people.
 Avoid actions that could negatively impact
others,
 such as spreading malware or engaging in
cyberbullying.
Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics

2. Thou shalt not interfere with other people's

computer work.

 Respect others' work by not tampering with

or obstructing their tasks,

 such as disrupting systems or deleting

files.
Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics

3. Thou shalt not snoop around in other

people's computer files.

 Respect privacy by refraining from

unauthorized access to others' files or

data.
Ten Commandments of Computer Ethics

4. Thou shalt not use a computer to steal.

Approaches To Ethics
 Ethics is the study of moral
principles that govern human
behavior.
 Different approaches to ethics offer
frameworks for determining, what is
right or wrong.
Approaches To Ethics
 Here are the main approaches:
1. Consequentialist Approaches
 These approaches focus on the outcomes of
actions.
 Utilitarianism – An action is right if it
produces the greatest good for the greatest
number.
Approaches To Ethics
 Ethical Egoism – The morally right action is
the one that maximizes self-interest.
 Rule Consequentialism – Instead of
evaluating actions individually,
 We should follow rules that generally lead
to good consequences.
Approaches To Ethics
2. Deontological (Duty-Based) Approaches
 These focus on duties and rules rather than
consequences.
 Kantian Ethics – Actions are morally right
if they follow universal moral laws,
regardless of the consequences.
Approaches To Ethics
 Divine Command Theory – Morality is based on
God’s commandments.
 An action is right if God commands it.
 Rights-Based Ethics – Morality is grounded
in individual rights (e.g., human rights,
legal rights).
Approaches To Ethics
3. Virtue Ethics
 Focuses on character rather than rules or
outcomes.
 A good person develops virtues (e.g.,
honesty, courage, compassion) through habit
and practice.
Approaches To Ethics
4. Contractualism (Social Contract Theory)
 Moral and political rules are justified
based on a contract or agreement among
individuals.
5. Care Ethics (Feminist Ethics)
 Emphasizes relationships, care, and
emotional connections rather than abstract
principles.
Approaches To Ethics
6. Relativist Approaches
 Moral Relativism – Morality depends on
cultural, social, or personal perspectives.
 There are no absolute moral truths.
 Ethical Subjectivism – Morality is based on
individual opinions and feelings.
Approaches To Ethics
7. Pragmatic Ethics
 Ethics should be flexible and evolve based
on real-world experience and progress
