Differential Equations - Math - 12th Grade by Slidesgo

Linear equations represent straight lines on a coordinate plane, with standard form providing a way to easily compare and work with them. The document explains the concept of linear functions, graphing methods, and the significance of intercepts, as well as real-life applications such as calculating speed and expenses. Examples include the equations y = 3x - 2 and y = 2x + 1, illustrating how changes in x affect y.

What are the linear equations and what is standard form

A linear function is like a special rule that tells you

how to draw a perfectly straight line. It says,
“Start here on the up-and-down road (y-axis), then
go this much up or down for every step you take on
the left-and-right road (x-axis).

Standard form : Standard form is a special way of

writing numbers or equations that helps us easily
compare and work with them.
Examples about linear function

Example about linear function :

A linear function is a function that
represents a straight line on the
coordinate plane. For example, y =
3x - 2 represents a straight line on
a coordinate plane and hence it
represents a linear function. Since
y can be replaced with f(x), this
function can be written as f(x) = 3x
- 2.
Examples about Graphing linear function
Example about graphing linear
function :
The equation y=2x+1 is a linear
equation or forms a straight line
on the graph. When the value of x
increases, then ultimately the
value of y also increases by twice
of the value of x plus 1. Suppose,
if we have to plot a graph of a
linear equation y=2x+1
Intercept Method
The point where the line or curve crosses the
axis of the graph is called intercept. If a
point crosses the x-axis, then it is called
the x-intercept. If a point crosses the y-
axis, then it is called the y-intercept. The
meaning of intercept of a line is the point
at which it intersects either the x-axis or y-
axis.
Table method
usually to show data for two or more
related quantities (represented by
variables). If we have a table of values
relating two quantities, it is often
useful to figure out if there is a
relationship between them, and what
the relationship is.
What are some real-life examples of linear
functions?

Some real life examples of linear functions would be finding the speed of
a vehicle, calculating revenues, profits, or expenses, or finding rates.
Applications of linear equations are required almost frequently in our
life even if that means doing calculations mentally at times. And this is
where the first application of linear equation comes. Some of the real-
life applications of linear equations could be calculating the cost of
hiring a taxi on vacation
