Class Discussion Questions
• Who is the Main Character of the Case
• What is the Main Issue of the Case?
Class Discussions:
• What changes have shaped the senior care market over the past few
decades? How might these changes influence the strategy of a non-profit
that serves seniors?
• What were the main challenges that Briody faced when he became CEO of
the IOA in February 2012?
• What were the four components of the turnaround strategy that Briody
enacted and why were they important?
• On a scale from one to 10, rate the outcome of each component of the
turnaround strategy. Which components were the most successful? Which
components were the least successful ?
• Do you think the IOA should remain a non-profit, become a for-profit , or
adopt a hybrid model? How might your decision impact the organization?
General Instruction for in-class activities

Submission Requirement:
Individuals from the groups submit their individual answers to the questions posted onto
dropbox – 2 days prior to to class. (worth 5%)

Groups who have been assigned to present on that day submit their answers in PPT format
onto dropbox – 1 hour prior to class start. (worth 5%)

Presentation Format:
The team will be asked to present their answers to their assigned questions in front of the
class – to kick off the conversation with the rest of the class.
Everyone should speak including Q&As.
Time: 5 – 7 minutes

Note: Use (if appropriate) learned tools or any frameworks you want to help provide insights
into the assigned questions.

Roles
The presenting groups are hired as consultants to provide advice to Briody and the Board of
Directors advised

The Audience
You will be the Board of Directors, helping Briody determine if IOA should change its business
model asa a non-profit

Each Group will be called up to answer the questions in sequence ( 5 – 7 minutes)

Both Groups will be asked to share their decision and rationale for Q5. (3 – 5 minutes each)

The class will discuss Q5 and make a final vote as resolution for IA.
