Normal Distribution (Autosaved)

The document provides an overview of normal distribution, including its properties, characteristics, and applications. It outlines the expectations for students to identify and analyze normal distribution concepts, sketch graphs, and calculate probabilities using mean and standard deviation. Additionally, it includes exercises and examples for converting normal random variables to standard normal variables using z-scores.

Normal distribution
It is also known as the Gaussian distribution, is a
probability distribution that is symmetric about
the mean, showing that data near the mean are
more frequent in occurrence than data far from
the mean. The normal distribution appears as a
"bell curve" when graphed.
Properties of a Normal
Distribution
1. A normal distribution curve is bell-shaped.
2. The mean, median, and mode are equal
and are located at the center of the
distribution.
3. A normal distribution curve is unimodal.
4. The curve is symmetric about the mean.
5. The curve is continuous; that is,
there are no gaps or holes.
6. The curve never touches the x-axis.
7. The width of the curve is determined
by the standard deviation of the
Distribution.
8. The area under the curve is 1.
In this activity, using the given data, get the probability
values P(X) for each of the random variables. Identify the
mean and standard deviation. Sketch the graph of a normal
distribution.

Z-SCORE
A z-score is a measure of the number of standard
deviations (σ) of a particular data value away from the
mean (μ).

A z-score measures exactly how many standard

deviations above or below the mean a data point is.

Probability and Statistics is 39 and
the scores are normally distributed
with a mean of 33 and a standard
deviation of 3.
