I. Introduction
I. Elderly and disabled people unfortunately go through a lot of fatigue as they get older which
means that performing easy and basic tasks become harder to complete.
II. Usage of voice controlled houses that are called smart houses and how efficient it could be to
help all types of people but specifically elderly.

3
II. Background and History
oNo one ever thought that a so called smart house that is capable of locking itself and
sensing any sort of danger and has built in security systems and doing different tasks
could actually happen that's why in the past decades , the concept of home automation
was sort of projected into the future.
oIn 1975, the first general purpose home automation network technology, X10, was
launched by Pico electronics of Glenrothe, Scotland.
oBy 2012, 1.5 million home automation systems have been installed in the United States.
oBy 2020 31 billon home gadgets will be connected. This number is supposed to grow to
75.4 billion by 2025.

4
III. Problem Statement
Elderly people struggle with a lot of different things and the most important ones are:
oDisabilities in any kind of way.
oInability in moving properly and completing basic chores. example: doing laundry, cleaning,
cooking.
oWe all know that regular homes do not have any capabilities in making it easier for them to
live a productive life.
oMaintaining a clean house or apartment could get hard the older they get because they
probably won't have the facilities to do anything that requires a lot of physical activity and
effort..

5
IV. Current Status
oAs if smart cars weren't enough smart houses were created after that. The whole concept of
smart houses is that they are voice activated by the owners and it has a built in security system
that would keep everyone safe from any intruder or any type of danger. These types of houses
can be locked using specific phone apps u have to download. They come equipped with cameras
to maintain a safe household. It only activates inside the house using voices of specific people.
You could command it to do almost anything u want like open fridges make schedules, activate
washing machines or showers, you can also control the lights and blinds in the house just the
way you personally would like them to be. These types of homes have obviously an sos or
emergency buttons for when any type of danger occurs or when there could be fires.

6
V. Advantages of The Project
o Smart houses that are controlled via voice are very easy to use and not
complicated at all.
o It not only makes things way easier but also faster to complete any sort of
task.
o They are used effortlessly and easily and they are extremely safe when it
comes to facing any sort of danger.
o Effective and can be connected to any device and most importantly phones.

7
VI. Disadvantages of The Project
oThey are a little more on the pricier side because it's obviously a very new concept.
oThese types of houses use bluetooth and internet most of the time so if anything goes wrong
with that, it could cause a delay or a malfunction.

8
VII. Project’s Specifications
The Smart house controlled via voice command consists of these
components :
1. Arduino Uno
2. FTDI Convertor
3. Geetech Voice Recognition Module
4. IR sensors
5. THE RELAY CHANNEL.

9
Arduino Uno
o Micro controller board based on the ATmega328 .
o That have 20 digital inputs or output pins
o Easy to use
o It can be used in many different fields .
o It has many features: adaptable, small, easy to modify, etc.

10
FTDI Convertor
o It is a cable used to convert analog to digital or vice versa.
o Operates at 5V.
o 6-pin connector.

11
Geetech Voice Recognition
Module
o Recognize and analyze the voice and send to the arduino.
o Operates between 4.5v and 5v .
o Current bigger then 40mA.
o Accuracy is 99%.

12
IR sensors
o Detect temperature.
o Detect motions.

13
THE RELAY CHANNELS

oIt act like a switch controlled by Arduino.

oConnected to appliances that have high
voltage circuit or high current circuit.

14
VIII. Results
oThis system is able to be controlled wireless through voice commands.
oThis system aims to operate the home devices in an easy way.
oThis system is able to help elderly in their home tasks .
oThis system can record specific language.

15
IX. Conclusion
oIf people were not able to buy these types of houses they could always use other types of voice
controlled machines or systems to help them get through the day in a very organized way. for
example: Alexa from Amazon.
oMakes things way easier and requires less physical activities.

16
Future Work
Future Work ideas that can be used in this project:
oThis project can be updated to be used in hotel, apartment, garage, etc.
oBy all people without exception to provide easier life.
oConstructing a smart city or neighborhood based on smart houses in all its building.
