PETROL REFINERIES OF
MAHARASHTRA
 MUMBAI REFINERY HPCL- The Indian Petroleum refining sector has come a long
way since crude oil was discovered and the first refinery was setup at digboi in
1901. Till 1947, that was the only refinery with a capacity of 0.50 million metric
tonnes per annum . The present Mumbai refinery of HPCL was the first morden
refinery to be set up after independence by Esso in 1954 , which was followed by
setting up of refineries by other oil majors , like Burmah shell and caltex in
Mumbai and Visakhapatnam . Since then, refineries were established by the
Government , Private Sector , Joint Venture. India has witnessed a spectacular
growth in the refining sector over the years. From a deficit scenario in 2001, the
country achieved self-sufficiency in refining and today is a major exporter of
Quality petroleum products . Today India is the global refining hub with refing
capacity of 248.9 MMTPA and is the fourth largest in the world after the united
states,China and Russia.There are total 23 refineries in the country, 18 in the
public sector, 2 in the joint venture and 3 in the private sector well spread
geographically and connected with cross country pipelines.
 2] Ratnagiri Refinery and petrochemicals limited- RRPCL is a joint venture
company, formed on 22nd september 2017 , by the three national oil companies of
india namely Indian oil corporation limited , bharat petroleum corporation
limited , and hindusthan petroleum corporation limited with euity participation of
50:25:25. it proposes to implement an itegrated refinery and petrochemicals
complex in the West coast of maharashtra. Besides fuels ,the project will also
develop various downstream petrochemicals to meet indians fast-growing
3] BHARAT PETROLEUM CORPORATION LIMITED (BPCL) – The refinery
commenced operation in january 1955 under the owership of burmah-shell
refineries LTD. Following the government’s acquisition of the Burmah-
shell ,name of the refinery was changed to bharat refineries limited on 1976. In
august 1977 ,the company was given its permanent name , viz . Bharat
Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). The installed capacity of 5.25 million
tonnes per year was increased to 6 millon tonnes per year in 1985. The present
refining capacity of the refinery is 6.9 million tonnes per year. It was expanded
to 12 million tonnes per year in a Refinery Modernization Project undertaken by
the company. The project added CDU/VDU, HCU, LOBS,HGU units in additions to
the required utilities such as DG,salt Water System etc.

SIKKIM
1] INDIAN OIL CORPORATION LIMITED (IOCL)- Indian oil corporation limited is one of india’s
largest public sector oil companies, engaged in refining , distribution , and marketing of
petroleum products . While sikkim may not have large –scale oil refinery operations , Indian oil
does have retail outlets (petrol stations ) across the state of Sikkim, providing fuel and other
related services to the region . The company ensures the availability of various petroleum
products like petrol, diesel,LPG (liquefied petroleum gas),and aviation fuel in sikkim.Indian oil
is also involved in the distribution of kerosene and other essential products to cater to
domestic and industrial needs in the state.

2] SIKKIM OIL AND GAS LIMITED - Sikkim oil and gas limited is a company based in the
indian state of sikkim. The company is involved in the exploration , production , and
distribution of oil and natural Gas resources . It plays a role in the energy sector by
contributing to the regional energy supply and offering services related to hydrocarbon
exploration. However, detailed information regarding Sikkim Oil and Gas limited is not widely
available,as it may be a relatively smaller or newer player in the sector .

3] DENZONG CHEMICALS AND PHARMACEUTICALS - Denzong chemicals and


pharmaceuticals is a company engaged in the production and distribution of chemicals and
pharmaceuticals products . It is typically involved in the manufacturing of a range of
chemicals substances used in the pharmaceuticals, agricultural ,and industrial sectors. These
companies often focus on the formulation , production , and marketing of active
pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients ,and finished pharmaceutical dosage forms.
