Shear force diagrams for beams subjected to couples remain constant at zero throughout the beam length, as couples do not introduce vertical forces. In contrast, bending moment diagrams exhibit discontinuities at the points where couples are applied, with the magnitude of the jump corresponding to the couple moment. Between these points, the bending moment remains constant due to the absence of additional loads or varying forces.

Describe shear force and

bending moment diagrams for beams
subjected to couples
>For Shear Force Diagram (SFD)
Couples are equal but opposite forces which result to
net moment but not net force
-Couples do not introduce vertical forces, so there is
no change in the shear force along the length of the
beam. hence shear force remains constant at zero
throughout the beam.
- So for beams subjected to couples the SFD is a
horizontal line at zero for the entire beam length.
Bending moment diagram for beams subjected
to couples .
-The bending moment diagram changes
discontinuously at the points where the couples
are applied.

-The magnitude of the jump at a couple is equal

to the magnitude of the couple moment.

-Between the couples and at other locations, the

bending moment remains constant because
there are no loads or varying forces.
