Week 2 p.1 Module 2
It is defined as something
“happening, existing ,living or
coming into being during the
same period of time.(Meriam Webster)
Contemporary art refers to art of
any form and genre that produced
in our contemporary time, simply
put as "art created today”.
Contemporary art is also influenced
by the economic , social ,political
and environmental context where
the artist is immersed in.
Contemporary Philippine art is not
confined to the usual genres of the
four main art forms namely: visual,
literary , applied and
performing arts.
VISUAL
ARTS
1. POP ART- an art
movement that
emerged in the united
kingdom and US during
the mid to late 1950s,
examples of pop art are;
advertising, comic books
and mundane mass –
produce objects.
2. WORD ART—
describes category of
text- based
postmodernist art
employed by several
contemporary artist
since the 1950s. Word
art is an art that
includes words or
phrases as its primary
CONCEPTUAL ART-is
art for which the idea
(or concept) behind
the work is more
important than the
finished art object.
INSTALLATION ART- is a
relatively new genre of
contemporary art – practiced
by increasing number of post
modernist.
It is s a broad term applied
to a range of arts practice
which involves the
installation or configuration
of objects in a space, where
the totality of objects and
space comprise the artwork.
PHOTO REALISM-is a
genre of encompasses
painting, drawing and
other graphic media. In
which the artist studies a
photograph and
attempts to reproduce
the image as
realistically.
CONTEMPORARY
REALISM-is a movement ,
a worldwide style of
painting which came into
existence in 1960s and
early 1970s. It is a
movement that celebrates
representational and well
executed paintings created
with high technical skills.
GRAFITTI ART-is
written or painted or
drawn on a wall or other
surface, usually without
permission and within
public view.
PERFORMANC
E ARTS
1. Music-
blues ,electronic,
experimental, funk, hip-
hop, jazz, metal, pop
rock and roots.
2. Theater art- stage film,
street play
3. Dance: flash mob,
street dances
comprising hip-hop
funk, house and rave
APPLIED
ARTS
Video art-is a genre of art
that uses films, video
recordings and video
projections as the creative or
expressive medium. Video
art is often site-specific, and
can be installed, exhibited,
viewed and recorded in
different places. Video art
began with the invention of
the television in the late
1940s.
PHOTOGRAPHY-
photographic
artworks that are
created in line with
the artist's vision. The
artwork uses
photography as the
artist's chosen
medium for creative
expression.
Computer art -typically
refers to any form
of graphic art or digital
imagery which is
produced with the aid of
a computer, or any types
of art in which the role
of the computer is
emphasized.
FILM AND
BROADCASTING ART-
creating audio and video
content and distributing
it to the masses via
radio, television or the
web is broadcasting.
Broadcast media arts is
everything that goes into
those production.
ARCHITECTURE
DESIGN AND ALLIED
ARTS
- Pertains to the
product of planning ,
designing and
constructing buildings
and other physical
structure.
LITERARY
ARTS
Illustrated novel –
refers to the extended
narrative with multiple
images that together with
text, produce meaning.
E.g.. Alice's adventure in
wonderland by Lewis
Carrol.
Digi – fiction- is fiction
that is written for and
read from computer or
smartphones and tablets.
Graphic novels – uses
interplay of text and
illustrations in comic strip
format to tell a story,
instead of relying on just
text to construct narrative.
Manga – a style of Japanese
comic books and graphic
novels typically aimed at
adults as well as children.
Text- talk novels –are
stories told almost
entirely in dialogue
simulating social
exchanges ,narrative are
usually presented.
Flash fiction-
define as a very
short story , while
there is no set word
count that separate
flash fiction from
more traditional
short stories.
Hyper poetry –refers
to genre of poetry that
is always produced
and presented with
computer.
Blogs –are often inter
active for personal
commentary or business
content.
