• The broken man’s computer was fixed.
The word broken, is modifying the word “man,” even though the whole sentence
is implying a different meaning. Instead, it makes it seem like the man is the one
broken.
CORRECTED SENTENCE:
• The man’s broken computer was fixed.
By switching the words, man and broken, the word broken now modifies the
word “computer.” In return, the sentence now presents a direct meaning and a
clear understanding of what it was trying to say.
MISPLACED MODIFIERS EXAMPLES
• She saw a dollar walking home.
The phrase “walking home” is the modifier in this sentence, the modifier is
modifying the word “dollar” which would make it seem like the dollar grew legs
and walked home! It’s wrong.
CORRECTED SENTENCE:
• Walking home, She saw a dollar.
By putting the words in the correct place, it is now modifying the word “she” and
that makes it seem like She was the one walking home, in which, would now
make sense.

• Smiling from ear to ear, Ivan finally gives one last smile as the contest
concludes silently.
The corrected sentence informs that Ivan was the one giving the smile.
DANGLING MODIFIER EXAMPLES:
METHOD 2
METHOD 2 REVISING THE MODIFIER: The second method in fixing
Dangling modifiers are changing the modifier, and leaving the clause as it is. (as
shown in the example.)
• While driving back home, a car accident caused a traffic jam on the highway.
The sentence above fails to clarify who was driving, in return, we must rewrite
the modifier.
CORRECTED SENTENCE:
• While Jessica was driving back home, a car accident caused a traffic jam on
the highway.
DANGLING MODIFIER EXAMPLES:
METHOD 2
• While drinking coffee, something happens from outside the café.
The sentence above fails to inform who exactly is drinking coffee, and in return,
we will ONLY rewrite the modifier it to make it make sense.
CORRECTED SENTENCE:
•While Nicole drank her coffee, something happens from outside the café.
The corrected sentence informs that Nicole was drinking her coffee, until
something happened from outside the café.
