Calculating

Speed, Distance,
and Time
Distance
Jonathan bought a new car. He drove his car from
Catbalogan City to Tacloban City at an average speed
of 65 kilometer per hour, for a total of 4.5 hours. How
far did he travel?

Speed: 65 kph

Time: 4.5 hours

Distance
Catbalogan City Tacloban City
To find the total distance travelled, we can simply
multiply the given speed and time.
Speed: 65 km/h Time: 4.5 hours

Distance = speed x time D=sxt

Distance = 65 x 4.5 65
x 4.5
325
+ 260
292.5
Answer: Jonathan travelled 292.5 kilometers.
How far will you travel if you ride on a motorcycle
for 12 minutes at 40 km/h?

Speed: 40 km/h Time: 12 minutes

Distance = speed x time D=sxt

Distance = 40 x 12 40
x 12
80
+ 40
480
Answer: A motorcycle travelled 480 kilometers.
Read and solve the following problems. Write your answer and
complete solution on your answer sheet.

1. How far will you travel if you ride your bicycle for 3 hours at
5 km/h?

2. How much distance will be covered in 7 hours at a speed of

62 km per hour?

3. Nancy rides her horse with a constant speed of 10 km per

hour. How far can she travel in 2 hours?

4. Lilly is driving a scooter with the speed of 20 km/hr for 5

hours. How much distance will she travel?

5. Mike drives his car at a speed of 70 km per hour. What is the

distance will he cover in 3.5 hours?
Read and solve the following problems. Write your answer
and complete solution on your answer sheet.

1. A tricycle covers a distance of 150 km at a speed of 30

km/hour. Find the time taken to cover the distance.
Time
How to find the distance when the
given are speed and time?

When speed and time are given, the

distance is calculated by using the
formula:

Distance = Speed × Time

Example:

Speed: 65 km/h Time: 4.5 hours

Distance = speed x time D=sxt

Distance = 65 x 4.5 65
x 4.5
