ABSTRACT

• Voltage, current and frequency are the three physical characteristics that
mostly define the power quality.
• power quality issue is defined as “any occurrence manifested in current,
voltage, or frequency deviations that results in damage, upset or failure of
end-use equipments”.
• The higher switching frequency and the non-linearity in the properties of
the power electronics devices are mostly responsible for the power quality
issue.
• So, Active shunt filter and hysteresis current controller are used to solve this
issue.
• a study on the Id-Iq control scheme based shunt active filter is brought out in
this project.

3
INTRODUCTION
• The use of nonlinear load and electronics devices such as computer, electronic bulb,
inverter, etc., is a common trend in today’s society .
• These types of load inject harmonics components in the transmission line which
pollutes the supply power and degrades the power quality .
• As a result several disturbances such as excessive vibration of motor, damage of
capacitor, appliances deterioration, excessive heat formation, etc., happen frequently.
• Here we have a novel approach to improve the power quality and minimize the THD by
using active shunt filter. The drawback of passive filter is resonance problem .
• Active filter is free from such type of problem and shows good performance in respect
of speed and accuracy .

4
LITERATURE SURVEY

Many a literature was extensively studied to carry out the project

•From paper [1] discuss about the different methods to reduce harmonics.
•From paper[2] discuss about applications of shunt active filter.
•From paper[3] discuss about the control strategy.

5
PROPOSED SYSTEM

 In this project, we have simulated hysteresis current controller based active shunt
filter with our main focus to improve supply current waveform with low THD
profile.

16
ADVANTAGES

 These filters are more responsible than passive filters.

 No resonance issue.
 It can eliminate any harmonics.
 Used for voltage regulation.
 Used for reactive power compensation.

17
DISADVANTAGES

 It is expensive.
 It provides a complex control system.
 The active filter is only suitable for low or moderate frequencies.
 It cannot handle a large amount of power.
 It requires DC power supply for their operation.

18
CONCLUSION

• From the above result it is concluded that we have achieved our goal in
reducing Total Harmonic Distortion of supply current and improving the power
quality.
• By using hysteresis current controller based shunt active filter we have
improved the shape of supply current waveform.
• This shows the transfer of a better quality of power.

19
FUTURE SCOPE

In future our focus is to improve power quality issues with the help of
more advanced controlling methodology. However more advanced
methodologies of controlling method have been introduced such as
adaptive fuzzy hysteresis band-current controller, space phasor based
hysteresis current controller.
