4.1 ANGLES IN TRIANGLES
Triangles are prevalent in the construction of
buildings and bridges because they provide
structural strength and stability in which they
often become an impressive part of the
exterior design.

Triangles are classified as acute, right, and

obtuse, but they can also be classified by the
length of their sides.

Exterior Angle- An angle of a triangle that

forms a linear pair with one of the angles in the
triangle.

Remote Interior Angles- An angle of an exterior

angle are the two angles of the triangle that
are not adjacent to the given exterior angle.
4.1 ANGLES IN TRIANGLES
THEOREMS AND COROLLARIES
Triangle sum theorem- the sum of the measures of angles of any
triangles is 180°.
Theorem: If two angles of one triangle are congruent to two angles
of another triangle, then the third angles are also congruent.
Exterior Angle Theorem- The measure of an exterior angle of a
triangle is equal to the sum of the measures of its two remote
interior angles.
Corollaries:
• The acute angles of a right triangle are complementary.
• Each angle in an equiangular triangle has a measure of 60°.
4.2 CONGRUENT FIGURES
Congruent figures are figures with
the same size and shape.
Some congruent figures are
• Congruent Circles- Circles with
congruent radii.
• Congruent Polygons- Polygons
whose corresponding sides and
angles are congruent.
• Congruent Triangles- Triangles
whose corresponding sides and
angles are congruent.
4.2 CONGRUENT FIGURES
THEOREMS
Theorem: Tringle congruence is an
equivalence relation.
Theorem: Circle congruence is an
equivalence relation.
Theorem: Polygon congruence is an
equivalence relation.
4.3 CONGRUENCE POSTULATES

Side-Angle-Side Congruence Postulate

(SAS ≅)- If two sides and an included
angle of one triangle are congruent to
the corresponding two sides and
included angle of another triangle, then
the two sides are congruent.

Angle-Side-Angle Congruence Postulate

(ASA ≅)- If two angles and an included
side of one triangle are congruent to
the corresponding two angles and
included side of another triangle, then
the two triangles are congruent.
4.4 APPLYING CONGRUENCE
POSTULATES THEOREMS
Angle-Angle-Side Congruence Theorem (AAS ≅)- If
two angles and a nonincluded side of one triangle
are congruent to the corresponding angles and
side of another triangle, then the two triangles are
congruent.
Isosceles Triangle Theorem- If two sides of a
triangle are congruent, the angles opposite those
sides (The base angles of the isosceles triangle)
are congruent.
Converse of the Isosceles Triangle Theorem- If two
angles of a triangle are congruent, the sides
opposite those angles are congruent and the
triangle is isosceles.
Theorem- A triangle is equilateral if and only if it
4.5 CONDITIONS FOR
CONGRUENT TRIANGLES
Side-Side-Side Congruence Theorem
(SSS ≅)- If each side of one triangle
is congruent to the corresponding
side of a second triangle, then the
two triangles are congruent.
4.6 RIGHT TRIANGLE
CONGRUENCE THEOREMS
⭐ Hypotenuse- The longest side of an
angle.
Leg-Leg Congruence Theorem (LL ≅)-
If the two legs of one right triangle
are congruent to the two legs of
another right triangle, then the two
triangles are congruent.

Hypotenuse-Angle Congruence
Theorem (HA ≅)- If the hypotenuse
and an acute angle of one right
triangle are congruent to the
hypotenuse and the corresponding
acute angle of another right triangle,
then the two triangles are congruent.
4.6 CONTINUED
THEOREMS…
Leg-Angle Congruence Theorem (LA ≅)- If
a leg and an acute angle of one right
triangle are congruent to the
corresponding leg and acute angle of
another right triangle, then the two
triangles are congruent.

Hypotenuse-Leg Congruence Theorem (HL

≅)- If the hypotenuse and a leg of one
right triangle are congruent to the
hypotenuse and the corresponding leg of
another right triangle, then the two
triangles are congruent.
4.7 COORDINATE GEOMETRY
OF TRIANGLES + THEOREM
• Coordinate geometry employs
coordinates, usually related to the
geometric Cartesian coordinate plane,
to further examine and describe
geometric relationships.
Midsegment (of a triangle)- A segment
connecting the midpoints of two of the
triangle’s sides.
Theorem:
Triangle Midsegment Theorem- A
midsegment of a triangle is parallel to
the third side of the triangle and is half
the length of the third side.
